I will be best if we can please keep to one topic for discussion relating to the BYD Dolphin:
That’s why I thought I’d bring a bit of order to things. There is not 1 BYD Dolphin, there are 3 different BYD Dolphins.
In the "Off Topic (Non-Honda)" section, I was creating (or at least trying to create...
) separate topics for very different cars that have confusingly similar names.
After all, a BYD Dolphin G—which is a plug-in hybrid supermini—is a completely different car from a BYD Dolphin, an electric car or a BYD Dolphin Surf also electric, but a small car.

Follow reset instructions on page 534 easy always have to do mine about six weeks before service
then I do it again on day of service. no need to scroll down to page 534 just click on the page just
after the start of the manual.

Honda calls this feature "Super Locking" (in case you should search for it in the manual).
If you happen to have a model with keyless access you can indeed apply "super locking" by just pressing the sensor on the door handle or tailgate twice within 5 seconds (and thus "double locking" it)
Otherwise it gets a little more complicated (from the MY24 manual p181):
Super Locking
The super locking function disables the lock tabs on all doors.
■ To activate the super locking function
• Turn the key in the driver’s door towards the vehicle front twice within five seconds.
• Press the lock button on the remote transmitter twice within five seconds.
Models with keyless access system
• Touch the door lock sensor on the door handle
or press the lock button on the tailgate twice within five seconds.
■ To cancel the super locking function
Unlock the driver’s door with the remote transmitter or keyless access system.
WARNING
No one must be inside the vehicle with the super locking set.
Persons locked in can get seriously sick or die from the heat built inside the vehicle if left in the sun.
Make sure there is no one inside the vehicle before setting the super locking.
If you unlock a door with the built-in key while the security system is activated, the alarm will go off.

I was almost going for the Corolla like yours. The problem with the Corolla is that I have a 9 year old kid who is soon going to be a teen and we drive mostly in the city... But still I wonder because I want to keep the car as long as possible and Toyota is legendary in that regard.
I owned my last Jazz for 17 years and it was only wear and tear items that needed replacing. Even the gearbox bearings never became noisy. Rust was only limited to one or two bubbles inside the rear wheel arch and the occasional MOT advisory for rear brake pipes.
I assume the problem with the Corolla and your child could be space in rear? Rear space isn't a strong point.

The 12V battery can also be charged using the high voltage battery. Apparently that’s what it tried to do after a minute. Why and how the attendant restarted it, is not clear and might have messed things up. However, I think the 12V battery is near its end of life.
For the record: did you double lock the car before leaving it for 3 weeks?
