Yes it's  tricky one with wear and tear.

I had a similar problem with my first Jazz (2004 se auto) in the pedal area but not a place where you would rest your foot, the dealer took photos to send to Honda and they replaced the carpet under warranty, this occurred in the first year of ownership but the problem never reoccurred in the following 3 years of ownership, so it must have been a manufacturing problem so keep on at your dealership to sort it out.  ;D ;D
Good to know ! I will be going to Honda Direct but have sent the images to a vehicle trimmer who can do a 'repair' of sorts for £35... he will make up his mind how to tackle it when he sees it on the flesh. (Not the photos)   Also not sure how it will look...I really do think I had a defective carpet   :o  How unlucky is that!

Thanks for the update. Good Luck with Honda I can see that unless loads of others report a problem you may have to reflect on whether a £35 repair is worth a punt or will make things look worse. I would get several trimmers opinions. £35 seems incredibly cheap…My observation would be that it depends on how long you are going to keep the car, how much it annoys you, and how much it will affect the cars trade in value. If you are only going to keep the car for say three years. Two ideas occur. 1) Dont drive in your current shoes but drive in a very lightweight pair of slip on type Sketchers that you keep in the car for driving. If your current driving habits are to blame and or current shoes. Using lightweight shoes may not make things much worse. 2) It occurs that you might be able to cover over the affected area during your ownership with a temporary fix which you remove leaving no trace on trade in. Say overlay a very thin piece of flexible rubber stuck with removable rubber glue - just applied to the footplate surface. (You would need to try out a small patch to ensure you could remove all the glue on trade in and wouldnt spoil the footplate).  Then the rubber could be turned over the side of the affected wear area without adhesive.  To make sure the protective layer doesnt flap about, the rubber protective sheet could be bent underneath the edge of a sacrificial Honda accessory drivers car mat or aftermarket. (Just for a short distance not necessarily under the whole area of the mat). It would need to be stuck to the underside of the drivers accessory mat so that the rubber protective piece doesnt get caught by your feet or impede the pedals or any sensors or be a driving risk etc.   When trading in you remove the rubber, glue with a suitable solvent, and discard the accessory mat.
Alternatively you could approach Coverdale Ltd to supply you with a nice set of Lambswool Cover Rugs made to measure to cover over the whole of your front cabin. It will cost you about 2k plus fitting, but you will be the envy of the Jazz forum, and they will feel luxurious under your feet.  Of course you will need to protect them with even more carpet or rubber to stop them getting dirty!

I find it fascinating that you can almost divide people   into 'make do and mend'  or ' must be replaced as new' personalities.  I'm inclined to 'make do and mend'.  ;D  Maybe I am sometimes more tolerant than I should be. But some have regretted taking me for a pushover.

There is a genuine issue about where each individual draws the line  between what is fair wear and tear and where  someone should be held liable.
Sorry i dont mean to ridicule  anyone  or trivialise what can be a serious concern by trying to see the funny side.  (IMO  ;D ) .  but ...
Perhaps a university will get a large grant  to turn it into an 'ism'   We will know where we are on the DIY/bodge spectrum and claim for practical  training or counselling.  And a new ombudsman to mediate situations.  Or a government  minster of shoddiness.   Rugrats  ;D

As I am very careful how I spend my money I would disguise the imperfection with shoe polish and be aware where I put my left foot.

Really for Info.

Took my Jazz to a Vehicle Trimmer who stated the hole, split, call it what you will, was caused by an imperfection in the 'sealed' carpet at manufacture,  as impossible for the left foot to be placed in a total unnatural position for it  to 'rub', this can be  the only cause.  (He did ask at first if I had a rodent problem, but closer inspection got rid of that one !)

He has 'filled' to split and I sourced a small sheet aluminium that the trimmer cut to size and placed over the footrest. Actually looks quite good  :-* but cost me a massive £50 !  I have emailed Honda customer care but expecting diddly squat in return.

When I put this post up was to see if any other owner had same issue, but seems I am alone.. hey ho
