What a wonderful day!
« on: July 05, 2024, 10:16:54 PM »
Our little Jazz clocked up 140,000 miles today. Never once in its life has it broken down. Such a brilliant little car.  8)

It had a new windscreen fitted earlier this year, and it picked up a nasty chip last week. Bummer. Autoglass managed to repair it today for the cost of £25 excess. Good times. Autoglass technicians are a friendly bunch, and I would be happy to use them again.

Yep, a wonderful day. Even the headlines today are brilliant.

Thanks.  It's really encouraging to know these engines can do that sort of mileage without issue.  Out of interest, how many times have you changes the plugs?  And have you ever adjusted the valves?

I've changed the plugs once, second time in the cars life. A bit of a pain to do re access, but straight forward. I also used Bosch plugs and saved a packet, and they work just fine.

We bought our Jazz at 82k with a full Honda history. I assume they did the valves as per schedule, but I've never done them. Car runs and sounds fine.

The oil and filter I change before schedule every 6 to 8k miles ish using decent 5w30 A5 oil. Blue Print filter are <£5ea from car parts in motion, so cheap to do! I think the car will still be going in another 100k easily enough. A robust car for sure.

Indeed, there was a member on here that ran a MK2 as a driving instructors car, and iirc that had c250k on the clock.

I have never been bothered by high mileage. Better a car that's been used and worked, than one that has just pootled about for 2k in my opinion. Lack of use will kill a motor.

The MK1 runs for ever too, they just sadly suffer from a lot more rust and cat thefts. That seems to bring them to an end way before the engine lets go. Solid old school Honda tech.

I also switched o Bosch plugs. Half the price: no change in performance.

It was your use of Bosch that convinced me to fit them Madasafish. Thanks for the heads up and saving! Good advice.  :D

That's insane. How long more do you think it could go for?

Old Honda petrol motors run for ever. I expect rust will kill our wee Jazzz before it wears out. Over the years I've driven many motors with over 250k on the clock, and they still ran extremely well. Not sure you'll get that sort of mileage out of new cars though, they do seem to be built to a price rather than engineering standards.

This Accord has over 1 million miles!
