Prior to my Crosstar I owned a Golf for two years. It had an excellent radar (as opposed to camera) ACC and it is a better system than the Honda. None of the problems as reported in this thread. However on the relevant Golf Forums there were numerous posts about owners needing readjustment or whatever of the bonnet mounted sensor for a pricey £300 to £400. So, if one accepts the limitations of the Honda system, perhaps its long term reliability will count as a plus.

It's not that the ACC is ineffective it's just that many of us would like the choice of using the traditional simple cruise control over which we have complete control.
Why does everything have to be so complicated now?

Is that an oxymoron? ::) or two?  :)

I must admit I like my (old fashioned,  non automatic ) cruise control but sometimes feel that it would be improved by responding to the traffic in front.

It's a great idea, but not well implemented on these cars.

Exactly. What I want is a traditional speed regulator + something simple to automatically adjust the speed depending on the car in front of me. That's all.
I dont look for an autonomous driving, taking into account what is happening in the next lanes and many others things. I dont want that the ACC supposes that this or that could happen and makes the car brake all the time.
The ACC from Honda is only an assistant, should only be an assistant, not a bad semi autonomous system
Jazz 4 (Very happy except for the ACC)

It's not the idea that's wrong; it's the implentation in the Jazz that's the problem.

Yes, I can see on Youtube that Renault, Peugeot, VW etc. seem to have a much more better implemented ACC.
May be the older Jazz with the "old" combo radar+camera too?

My right foot is my cruise control  :)
It will be alright in the end, if it's not alright then it's not the end !

I only use cruise in average speed zones to stop me inadvertently drifting over the limit.

These days, with quiet comfy cars that's so easy to do.

I used ACC again this evening. I was on the M40. Everything was going well until I moved into the middle lane from the outside, (overtaking/fast) lane. I was traveling at 70mph. When the car swung to the left, the radar must have detected the lorry that was in the slow lane. The car slammed its brakes on. I was suddenly doing 55mph in the middle lane. A large red exclamation sign appeared in the dash display. I was crapping myself that someone might ram into the back of the car.  ???

I had the detection distance set to maximum. I think a closer range may have prevented the problem.

I've just had the same on the M4.

Overtook a car in lane 2 then slowly drifted from lane 3 to lane 2, no vehicles in lane 2 in front, and it put the brakes on !!!

Good job I was on the ball. It wasn't as if I turned sharply but a slow drift from 3 to 2.

I can only guess that the horizontal sensor is too wide or angled too far left as there was traffic in lane 1 travelling slower.

I have my ACC set to minimum distance. Maximum isn't pratical as you could get 4 or 5 cars in the gap it leaves.

Sounds like a need for a safety recall?

Does anyone know if the settings for ACC can be adjusted? I think a narrower field of detection is needed, or even a slight focus toward the right, (on UK roads).

This is embarrassing .......

I've played my footage back from M4 J3 to J10 to trap the exact circumstances that the quick slowdown occurred and can I find it ....... no  :-[

I've played it 3 times and ..... nothing of note, although I did counter it very quickly with the accelerator, but, I remember at the time saying to myself, 'this is exactly what Neil had' and I'll post it up.

Next time I'll speak into the dashcam

I've found that I'm disconnecting mine now when approaching traffic in multiple lanes and switching it back on afterwards.

Otherwise it will brake unpredictably with cars all around you that's not what you want to be happening.

I did try the option of pressing the accelerator to soft override it, but it's not as good as just switching it off for a while.
