Rear wheel bearing hub - which one to buy in the US ?
« on: August 01, 2017, 07:47:21 PM »
Hello,
Recently I bought a used Jazz 2003 with a noise coming from the rear wheel bearing. After some research I discovered it's a common problem for this model. I will soon visit the US where I want to buy two bearings to bring to my country (from what I gather, the price there are between 20-40$ while buying where I live or shipping here can be much more costly >100$)

My question is - how do I look for the correct part? simply searching amazon/ebay  (sellers in the us) for "Honda Rear Hub Bearing jazz" gives 0 results, because in the US the model is named "Fit"
Then changing the search to include "Fit" isn't very helpful either because most of the items are for honda fit 2007 or later and I'm not sure if they will fit (no pun intended)

Then I tried searching for the part number which I think should be "42200-SAA-G01" (I'm not sure if it's the correct one and if it's the only correct part number... would be happy if someone more knowledgeable could approve this). And again, no luck, I couldn't find any relevant parts.

I will be there until 19 Aug (so I have less than 3 weeks to order and deliver the items to my place) so I think the only viable option is to order items from sellers in the US. Also, maybe there are other viable options except amazon/ebay?

Thanks in advance.

The Jazz/Fit wasn't introduced into the US until 2007.

Do you have drums or discs on the rear?

According to the parts I have searched here in the UK, 42200-SAA-G01 is the correct part number for a GD. Vary in price from £30 to £130 - and then there is Honda!!!

Not many of our earlier GD model made it to the US, the next model came along quite quickly so they only really bought the locally produced GE in great numbers.
I believe the hub comes in these variations:
- drum brakes without ABS
- drum brakes with ABS
- disc brakes with ABS

Your research looks correct; the US cars have drum brakes, UK cars had drum brakes from 2002>04, then changed to rear discs.  The ABS version has an added magnetic encoder ring.  These numbers all relate to the same drum with ABS bearing as it has been updated in it's lifetime: 42200-SAA-G01 42200-SAA-G02 42200-SAA-G51, but don't worry all are compatible and identical fitment - there may be additional part numbers as well.

Take a picture of your VIN plate with you, it may help the store confirm the correct part.

Wow, this thread got much more responses than I thought it would. For an old model like this to have a big fan-base like this is a decent achievement.

I forgot to mention that apparently I have drum brakes ( because I wasn't familiar with the other option I assumed I had disks but after a quick inspection they look like drums...)

@Jocko @Jeffyjazz
I look for an item exactly like this but I simply cant find any that sells in the US when I search in amazon/ebay.

Someone can link a seller that has it in stock?
Or maybe someone knows a good online shop that has those items and can ship them in the US ?

Many thanks to everybody for the replies.

As this is mostly a UK user forum we have little knowledge of US stores, but you could try asking on https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/

I just entered a search and came up with several options:
https://www.hondapartsnow.com
https://www.collegehillshondaparts.com
and a cheap version
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Wheel-Bearing-Hub-Assembly-Rear-for-Honda-Fit-Insight-NEW/370998466339
for the parts 42200-SAA-E03 and 42200-TF0-Z51

The same part can have several numbers depending on which supply chain it comes through and if it is also suitable for other models. The codes I listed in earlier message are all via Honda Europe, the US is likely to have alternative codes for the same part even if it is fitted to the same car made in the same Japanese factory.

Ask the vendors directly quoting your exact model and VIN number, don't just buy from a generic picture.

Just a thought might be worth doing before your trip to the USA. Quite by accident when trying to check on the air bag situation I somehow manged to get into a Honda site that was not the 'normal' one.
When I put in my vin number all I got not recognised.
It appeared the site I stumbled into was a USA one. It is possible that each country has it's own Honda website and therefore does not recognise a foreigner. Looking at your flag, am I correct in thinking you are Israeli?
If you can find the country of origin of your car it might be a help. Fit freak is a very useful site.

Good advice, I think I will contact a few sellers and ask them about the compatibility with my car providing my VIN.
I will also post to fitfreak.

@auntyneddy Yes, I'm from Israel and according to my VIN number the car was manufactured in Japan.
