Folding Mirrors
« on: March 08, 2017, 09:21:17 AM »
Has anyone had any problems with their folding mirrors? The mirrors have a mind of their own and fold in and out whenever they feel like. It seems to be worse when it's wet. Someone I see when I go dog walking has a mk3 and he said that his has dome it once. It's been back to Honda to have a look but it still does it.

Not had any problems with Mk3 but I had intermittent fault in my Mk2, which I solved by buying a second hand replacement off eBay for a fraction of the Honda price.

My local garage looked at it to make sure it was nothing simple and fitted the eBay one for me.

As it's a warranty issue, badger the dealer until they don't fold randomly any more.  Properly positioned wing mirrors are an MOT item and you would be justified in stating the safety aspect.

Clearly this is a fault, the mirrors should not move uncommanded. What did the dealer say about it ? If they doubted your report, try to film it with your phone and show them.

I've not had a problem in 12 months.  It sounds like a dodgy connection somewhere.

If I fold in my mirrors I return the switch to the "out" position after I have switched the car off. This folds the mirrors out at car switch on. Anything other than that is a dealer warranty job.

Maybe. Started recently after my service. On a couple of occasions after reversing out of my garage in the morning I've noticed that they haven't unfolded. Unfortunately on both occasions I sort of fumbled with the button so am not entirely sure whether they'd not unfolded when I released the button as I cleared the garage door or whether I just hadn't released the button in the first place. I suspect that it is the latter but it hasn't happened for over a week now so can't be sure.

I've had it happen once.
Trafficated left and the mirrors folded in.
To correct I pressed the fold button and pressed a second time and they unfolded.
The car is 16 months old and this is only the second problem, first being a false alarm with the tyre pressure warning.

I do exactly the same Deeps.

Have had no issues in 13,500 miles.

Happened again yesterday. This time it was definitely the switch at fault. Hopefully it will last until my next service :-/

It might be worth discussing it with the dealer, if it needs a new switch or other parts they will probably have to order them. If you turn up for a service and announce a fault I doubt if it will be fixed if parts at needed.

Well, obviously. The next service isn't due until next February so it's not critical that I inform them just yet.

That sounds like a NO to me!, especially if the service is nearly a year away.

I would be doing as Deeps suggested and not waiting a year...you never know when they're going to stay folded which would be serious in my book.

Obviously we have all come across drivers that rarely use their mirrors for their intended purpose and would not notice if they were folded in for a few months. :-)
