Piston slap

When the engine's cold I can hear what sounds like piston slap when I accelerate. Looking at pictures of the piston they do seem very short so I'm guessing this is normal? Once warmed up it disappears. Anyone else get it?

That does sound like piston slap (goes when warm)...how many miles has the car done?

My wife's Mk1 has done 53000 and does not have piston slap, and I have not picked up on piston slap as a known issue, but it might be on higher mileage cars.

In my experience it's more likely to be valve slap. Lot's of cars do it for the first few hundred yards, had several that did and was told it's quite normal. My 2008 CVT Jazz does it sometimes, especially if it has been unused for a day or two. Nothing to worry about I've been told by my mate who runs a garage.

The car's done 95K miles with full service history. It's a hollow light knocking sound more than a clicking tappet sound. After doing some Googling it appears to be prone with the piston design and nothing to worry about if no oil is being consumed - which it isn't.
