Which air filter?
« on: September 07, 2016, 10:41:49 PM »
Can someone tell me the difference between the genuine Honda air filters 17220-RB6-Z00 and 17220-RB0-000? The first HAS some sort of special yellow paper(?) where the other is white.

Also it's very difficult in the Netherlands to order genuine Honda parts online for the Jazz. But there some other brands which are a replacement for both Honda part numbers, but the sizes are all different. How much space is there that length, width and height can be so different?

I fit the 17220-RB0-000  air filter to your model Jazz, unsure of the other part, some customers ask for a K&N filter
See K&N 33-2422 and although more expensive they last forever

As a bought in part, I would assume they both meet the original specification but are sourced from different suppliers.

I read mixed reviews on the K&N filters so i am going for the genuine Honda air filter or one of the quality (?) other brands.

I've got a K&N in mine and not had any problems whatsoever.

Whatever you prefer to buy.
I have been a K&N user for over 20 years - no issues.

You won't get problems with a K&N filter but you may feel that they do not live up to expectations regarding performance.
Pricewise you can get two standard filters for the price of a K&N that will last you 50K miles. The K&N will last forever if you buy a cleaning kit but who keeps a car forever?
Performance wise I don't make a lot of fuss about fuel consumption, if it dropped drastically I probably have a problem so I couldn't tell you if the K&N I have in my 2011 CVT makes a difference.
Acceleration wise I think there may some improvement at the higher revs end of the scale, I think it is more lively when overtaking or accelerating when using the 'S' mode so that you are revving up to the 6K mark.

Vic.

They aren't really wrong i think. The mixed reviews i read (on fitfreak forum etc) were about:
pros:
- re-usable and therefore more environmentally friendly and cheaper.
- better perfomance
- better MPG (only mentioned by a few)

cons:
- cleaning, drying and re-charging with oil is more time consuming than old filter out and new one in. Also some were talking about oil coming on the MAF sensor (whatever that is). And because of the fabric of the K&N filters there 's more airflow, but also more particulate matter into the engine.

It's just a few things i found on the web, so don't shoot the messenger when they are not right. ;)

Better performance? I am not seeking more (faster) speed. The Jazz' performance is good for what we need and use the car for. And after almost a year driving the iShift i know how to handle her without other drivers thinking: "Of course... there's a woman in a s-l-o-w Jazz. OMG!"
Better MPG is always good of course, but i expect more from my right foot than from the K&N filter for that. The re-usable thing is the only reason i would go for a K&N air filter.

Which alternative brands (paper filter) are also good quality as i have seen almost €30 for a Honda one? And i want it changed once a year (10.000 km) or is that too soon?
Maybe you can also tell me more about what's true about the cons (oil on that sensor and the less filtering than a paper one.) Also how about the recharging with oil thing, how difficult is this? @VicW i like to keep the Jazz to its last breath, hahaha, but not because i have damaged the engine some way with a K&N filter. ;)

I've fitted blue print parts to lots of cars/vans for many years, the part number for your Jazz  = ADH22268.
Curently around £10-12 in UK. I would be changeing a filter around 2-3 yrs or 40km normal driving
look at their website once you have your vehicle the site will show all parts for your model

The only thing the filter is there for is to keep dirt from getting into engine causing premature wear - so most people in UK which is not a very dusty place may never really know if filter is doing its job.  I would worry about oil front K & N filter getting onto MAF etc.

Some people will only consider you an expert if they agree with your point of view or advice,  when you give them advice they don't like they consider you an idiot

Hi,   I drive a '09 i-shift which now has 120k MILES.  I use Honda air filters and change them more often than perhaps
I need to.  A WORD OF WARNING, if you accidentally rev your engine on a cold start you will coat the filter element with engine oil!!  My solution was to wash the oiled filter in petrol and very carefully dry it.  But you MUST TREAT PETROL
with real respect. You could use lighter fuel but same warning applies.

Just wondering what route the oil takes to get to the filter?

@jamesdean
Our '10 i-shift has 63k kilometers (39k miles) now.
But my English is insufficient when it goes too technical. I have no idea what your mean by "rev your engine..." and "But you MUST TREAT PETROL" ?

I just want to swap the old paper air filter with a new one next month.
