Service and MOT needed - recommendations?
« on: June 11, 2016, 12:17:01 PM »
Hi guys I have had my Jazz since last September and it's running nicely with no issues. The service history kind of fizzles out over the last couple of years, with the book being 'stamped' with a handwritten 'service done' type note.  Subsequently, I want to get a full service done now. It also needs a MOT, so planning to get both done together.

There's a local independant Honda garage not far from me, which was recommended, however, they aren't returning either my emails OR my voice messages. Subsquently, they have lost my business.

I am now looking for any other recommendations around the Stockport / Manchester area?

I wouldn't necessarily rule out a main dealer (there is one in Stockport on the A6) because a lot of them will price match quotes for servicing from other local garages.

Yes, Swansway Honda is near me actually. They DO price match, but the terms are far too clever (exact same parts used etc etc) the chances of getting a deal based on pricematch is nigh on impossible. And the price they charge is virtually twice as much as the independant garage.

So, looking for recommendations really.

That's interesting to know - I've never used the price match thing myself.

You'd be better asking local friends and family to recommend an independant garage you can trust. I use the chap in my village, works on his own and is cheap. Servicing on a Jazz is straight forward so you don't need bells and whistles.

I'm feeling rather pleased......
Took out a 5 year service contract, with my local Honda dealer, £695. Works out at £139 per service.  ;)
They collect, for the first service, on Monday morning.

what does the service Include EXACTLY in uk?

synthetic engine oil for my jazz - 16eur
oil filter- 3.5eur
air filter 6eur

I usually just change it myself, when I don't feel like it or want to get something else checked out I bring to my local garage which will change the oil/filter and put the car up in air to look over the underside of any possible faults while the engine oil is dripping out- all for under 10euro.
Comes to about 35eur or £27 with oil/filters and labour,  Where does the rest £112 comes from?  :'(

Just on this debate I think, in UK terms and assuming you don't want to do the work yourself, the 5 year deal that Dayjo got was pretty good value for money. It's competitive with what most independents would charge.

My only reservation would be if this discounted price was not recouped by the dealer in the purchase price of the car but it's very difficult to work that out.

There's usually not much to do on a Jazz in it's first 5 years, but a Honda service plan would cover more than an independent including replacement transmission and brake fluid, plus you'd get software updates which is becoming more important with each new generation.

A Kwikfit / Halfords service might be cheap but is little more than an oil & filter change.  For the early cars like mine the full Honda service included the 8 plugs and tappet adjustment if needed and I would notice fresh lubrication spots on many things like my door hinges.

The five year deal is good value for new cars and helps the dealer maintain a relationship with the owner, plus private resale potential is enhanced.  The €35 diy option might be better on a €700 car, but not a £16k new car.
