Battery Booster
« on: February 13, 2016, 10:26:13 AM »
A couple of weeks ago I (well, Bessie the blue Jazz) had a flat(ish) battery and didn't have enough oomph to turn over. It was my own fault, so not complaints just an annoyance.

Mr AA man came out and did a boost start after checking the battery was OK. All well and good. But how to cope if I do another ID 10 T mistake and flatten the battery again?

Its not a bad bit of kit. 18AH battery and all the odds and sods including an air compressor for £70. Works as described (well, I haven't needed to boost start the battery yet) and the case is neat enough to slide under one of the front seats. Its a 'just fits' fit. so it won't slide out and rattle around.

Its a handy bit of insurance I say.

Looks an interesting bit of kit, one of my mates has a larger draper version that he keeps in the boot of his Civic, not sure how long the battery holds charge in your Suaoki but his one is 2 - 3 months! , he's only needed it once when he left his lights on, I guess the cheaper alternative if its manual is too park on a hill  :D

Having twice needed jump leads to another car in past year, I am very interested in this...Thanks! I didn't know such devices existed. (both incidents caused by putting hazards on while unloading on double lines.....reparking car and leaving hazards on...daft)

Since I already have a compressor and USB charging equipment I am more interested alternatives which are just the battery pack and jump leads like

Too much choice! That all seem to be well reviewed.

The reviews for this are quite good and it's even less expensive http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B013UBRZKS. It's surprising to read that such a small batter is capable of turning over a car engine.

If my Jazz hasn't been doing long journeys during the winter months then I give it a monthly top-up with an external charger.

@ 8AH it is around half the capacity though
