New (to us) Jazz. Clutch/Transmission noise normal?
« on: January 29, 2016, 12:09:29 PM »
So we picked up the 09 Jazz EX 1.4 with 60000miles on the clock on Weds. When we test drove it I noticed a slight grumble coming from the transmission area when the clutch is released, it goes quiet when the clutch is depressed. I thought clutch release or spigot bearing maybe? I mentioned it to the dealer (who sells a lot of Hondas) and he said it was normal on the Jazz, I wasn't convinced until he offered peace of mind by extending the warranty on the clutch bearings for a further 12 months.

Having driven the car for the past few days Ive noticed the noise get quieter once the car warms up and there also seems to be a slight whineyness to the transmission.

Is this normal?

Haven't noticed either of these noises on my 2010 1.4EX but I will listen carefully when I'm next in the car and report back.

SI have just purchased a 2013 jazz si  having traded in a 2005 14. cc with 56545 miles on the clock ,but I have noticed a whine in second year only ( it only got 6034 miles on clock bought from main Honda dealer ).
Does anyone know if this is normal  asI had no such noise on my previous  Jazz with the same engine and 5 speed gear box .
It's going in for a check next week 11 .01.16 .any ideas??

I am interested in
'leighdoms'  comment about a whine in second gear.  I noticed the same from shortly after purchase in October 2014. At the time the car was registering approximately 38,500 miles. I didn't write the actual mileage down immediately.  The whine has not changed in the 7000 miles that I have done.
I did wonder but most cars that I have driven over the years have had some slight whines from the transmission.
I appreciate that my I shift is a manual box but is it the same as a 'normal' gearbox?  (apart from the electronic wizardry that is?)

Haven't noticed this on ether of my 2009 EX 1.4 but the millage is half yours, sounds like a clutch release bearing to me from what you are disscribeing,  you would need someone that is familiar with these cars at these sort of mileages and more to see if it is normal, it will of course also depend on the type of miles the car has done, 60,000 miles of shops, schools,  kids taxi will take much more out of a car than the 100,000 motorway car
