Two screws a the rear, front is two trim clips, push the middle pin inwards to release, then you can move the pin so it is sticking out when you put it back and push the middle pin to lock. There's a clip in the middle just in front of the handbrake cut-out.

I suppose I'll finish this thread off myself  ::)

Blueish round clip below the handbrake lever is the clip in the middle:

With the centre console out of the way, with a flat-bladed screwdriver release the round top plate that sits round the gear selector. There are four lugs that clip it down.

Move that forwards and the bulb is underneath that plate towards the front on the driver's side. The holder will need to be twisted out.

Bulb is capless thing that pushes into the holder. Honda officially call it a 14V 1.4W, but throw a 286 in there (12V, 1.2W) and job done.

I've got a bag of them here. ;)

When you say "used", do you mean until ebay got dead greedy? (rather than not-so-dead greedy).

looks like you could get a 5watt LED sidelight bulb in there,  would it be too bright ?  it looks like a lot of trouble to replace so may be worth paying a couple of £'s for the LED

The bulb in my hand is one of those dashboard type of bulb with the T5 wedge base and a 5mm diameter bulb. Can't remember if it dims with the rest of the dash. I only took the pictures when I was in the silver one as it's already apart and haven't actually got round to changing the one in the yellow car.

If car chargers are anything to go by, an LED would bug me with it's brightness. It's not really a hardship given that there is the gear selector position display in the tachometer face of the instrument panel.

Thank you again Eddie, one other thing, does the console lift enough without removing the top of the gear selector lever. ??

You don't have to remove the selector knob. You just lift the circular plate enough to get you fingers in to twist the bulb holder out.

Having just gone out in the dark and done mine...

1) Slide both front seat as far forwards as they'll go.
2) Undo the two screws either side at the rear of the centre console.
3) Slide both front seats as far back as they'll go.
4) Push the middle pin inwards of the two front clips either side of the front of the centre console.
5) With the handbrake up and the gear selector in N, lift the centre console upwards at the rear to about 30-odd degrees.
6) Using a flat bladed screwdriver, carefully unclip the front and rear driver's side clips on the selector bezel, so the round bezel can be raised slightly on the right-hand side.
7) Twist bulbholder until it disengages with the hole (90 degrees).
8) Pull out duff bulb and replace.
9) Put it back together in reverse. Note that the pins in the front clips will need withdrawing. Inset the hollowed clip into the hole first, followed by push the pin down the hole until flush.

If you require more room to work with, then to remove the console full, disconnect the wires from the back of the cigarette lighter socket (and remember to reconnect them when putting back). If lifting the right-hand side of the plate doesn't give enough room. Disengage the clips of the passenger side of the bezel and tilt bezel forwards.
