Help on ipod connectivity.
« on: October 06, 2015, 09:34:57 AM »
Being " of a certain age " modern technology seems to hate me !
One of the advantages of the new Jazz is the opportunity to connect my Ipod to the sound system via the USB socket.
Got round to a test this morning but no joy.
Despite having checked and re checked the instructions bible all I get is a flashing message saying ' CONNECT RETRY '.
Any wizz out there know what I am doing wrong or failing to do?
Thanks in advance of your help.

My Hybrid can also connect to my iPod via USB, but the iPod needs to be switched on before connecting, at least in my car.
Hope this helps.

I have no problem playing music from a simple flash drive - just select USB as an audio source but, while the car will happily pair with my Android phone via Bluetooth it gives the Connect Retry error if I try to connect to the phone via USB. The car's system does appear to be very selective. Honda will, no doubt, say that it is our devices are incompatible. Indeed, I'm starting to wonder whether we of a certain age who expect to be in control of our cars are incompatible with the Mk 3.

The best fix for your music problem is to dump it all on a flash drive which you plug into the socket in the cubbyhole between the front seats and forget that it's there. You can set the audio system to random play, etc. Alternatively take the car + ipod to the dealer - page 300 of the book says that if you cannot clear the error message then contact the dealer. If enough dealers complain about the problems then Honda might take notice.

I am also of 'a certain age', but consider myself reasonable tech savvy. However, by including all this gadgetry maybe Honda are trying to appeal to the younger generation in a bid to get away from the car's senior citizen image.
Just a thought.

I'm going  to  check the telephone connectivity via the USB cable later.
I suspect that this too is going to be a non starter.
Beginning to get a bit browned off with gizmos that don't for one reason or another deliver .
Got to go back to the dealer regarding the spare wheel / polystyrene boot floor support anyway.
Will try to get these issues resolved,  although car salesmen tend to be a bit slippery " post sale ".

I did get it wrong! !
To connect the ipod DIRECTLY  to Honda Connect you need a phone jack to USB cable .
The salesman checked my Ipod on his Civic and it didn't see the ipod.
He did say that all his music is stored on a permanently plugged in flash USB memory stick in the storage near the hand brake.
It's a 4Gb stick and only cost £2.99 so that's what I shall do.
This has already been pointed out on here by John.
Now have to dump all my music on to the memory stick........here goes !

Phone jack to USB? As in headphones-style 3.5mm socket to USB? On a Jazz Mk2 Si courtesy car I could connect my IPod Nano (4th gen, purchased late 2008) to the USB socket by using the Apple proprietary connector (not the newer lightning type) to USB cable that came with the iPod.

Which iPod do you have?

I have a little ipod ' nano 2Gb ' it's about six years old or so but suits me fine.
I haven't tried the " headphone jack to USB port" connection yet.
Haven't got a cable yet but I suspect that wont work either.
Page 215 of the ' how it works' book clearly shows the ipod dock connector to the USB port. It irritates me that these features do not work , I would rather not have the option / possibility.
Suspect also that the phone connection won't work via USB either although thankfully it sees my phone via bluetooth.
Wanted to play my music this way but feel short changed by Honda on this.

I have just put a few albums on a flash drive memory stick to play in my Jazz Hybrid via the USB port but, unlike the iPod, it doesn't seem to list individual albums, just plays the songs in the order they were put on the stick.
It makes selecting an album long-winded because I have to go through every song until I find the album I want.
Is this normal, or am I doing something wrong? I have tried following the instructions in the Jazz owner's manual, but to no avail.

Thanks

I have just connected my iPod and no problem. Are you using the iPod connection lead, the one that goes in the bottom of the iPod. When turned on the USB sign is displayed on the top of the jazz's display. If it is showing then then press the source button on the steering wheel until the USB is displayed on the screen, and it is ease from there.

Thanks Trebor. I have no problem with an iPod. It is the memory stick which is is not listing individual albums which is puzzling me.

At the top of the display you should see the USB icon on the left,a folder icon in the middleand a music icon on the right, tapping the folder icon sould bring up all the individual albums

artjet - I think you must be assuming I have the new Jazz with a touchscreen. Actually, I have the Jazz Hybrid with only the bog standard radio. Maybe I should post this on the Hybrid forum.
Thanks anyway.

Try pressing the Scan button twice, the first track will start playing on an album/folder for about 10 secs, if you do nothing it will play the first track on the next album/folder,when you find the one you want to listen to press scan, not ideal but hope this helps
