Potential Jazz owner....
« on: July 28, 2015, 09:03:54 AM »
Hello all,

I'm new to the forum as i'm looking for some assistance and guidance.

At the moment we have a 1.0 52 plate Corsa as our 2nd car (We had our first child in March), with our main car been a 2006 Honda Civic.

The Corsa has been no end of problems and we are getting rid of it ASAP (Not a fan of Vauxhall anymore!).

I have been looking at the Honda Jazz given how reliable and refined our Civic has been over the last 2 years of Ownership.

Are there any issues I need to look at in particular when viewing?

We don't have a huge budget (Around £1k) and have seen a couple that are local to us. One of these is below, I called in this morning on the way to work and it seems tidy enough when looking around. Obviously I need to call back and have a good more in depth look when I have more time.

2005 1.4 SE
FSH
124k miles
£1085

Any help is much appreciated! :D

I have a 56 plate with a lot less miles and will be very loathed to sell it when the time comes. A new battery and a couple of light bulbs in the 6 years I have had it. Oh front and rear brake pads as well. Still on the original exhaust. Hondas built to a standard not a price. So in my experience go for it if it seems right for you.

As with any used car its all about condition service history with garage bills and length of remaining MOT.
Do you know trust the garage selling the \Jazz?
Remember when buying another car from adealer you are protected under the 2013 consumer regs - http://www.tradingstandards.uk/cgi-bin/glos/con1item.cgi?file=*ADV0003-1011.txt

We've just bought a 2002 Jazz for under £1000 after 8wks of looking (not just for a Jazz). One family owned and 91k but despite it driving really well to get it up to scratch a major service was due, front discs/pads, couple of tyres (to get them really good) and an aircon repair. The same will be true of pretty well every £1000 car with a dealer... but that's fine if you are OK to DIY and bring it up to standard... or you are happy to use and just pay for repair when things wear/break.

Good luck with the search.

Personally I'd prefer to buy privately at that price if I can, he will have got that car probably from the auction for half the price it is on for sale for. Have a good look over it, it is high on miles but cheap for a 55 plate. It may have had lots of work done but I'd want to see invoices to confirm. I think an SE should have colour coded mirrors but the drivers mirror looks black. Hope that helps. Ps I'm in Leeds too, not had mine long but am very happy with it.

Yes very much agree... as you say about half the price is dealer profit. I find... even if private folks are a bit evasive... you can still find out loads more about a car from the owner compared with the dealer who sees it as a lump of metal and profit towards his holidays.

There are decent dealers... but hard to find!

Thanks, I agree that speaking to the previous owner is invaluable. Nice people tend to sell nice cars.
