water in spare wheel well
« on: June 13, 2015, 08:26:11 PM »
hi guys

does anyone know where i can get hold of a copy of the technical bulletin for the leaking boot problem?

lets just say i'm at 'discussion stage' with Honda UK and need to have a copy if that's possible.

the other threads on this problem just point to a website telling you how to repair it.

thanks guys

I had a problem with this back in 2013 not long after I had taken delivery of my Jazz - a 2010 1.4 EX.

Mine manifested itself as a small puddle below the driver's side rear light cluster but it had seeped into the hollow where the spare wheel would be.

In the end I took it to a local body work specialist who tested it with a pressure hose and it turned out to be the seal round the light cluster. They resealed it, retested it and charged me £55. The problem hasn't recurred.

Worth a check to see if that is where the water is coming in in your case.

I'll see what I got when I get home, but I've only got Irish headed ones, which won't be the same bulletin number as the UK one.

You can see those bulletins online, but you have to stump up cash for access as per an indy garage. Think it was 10 yoyos for an hour with a load of T&Cs.

I seem to recall that if they did consider it a Service Bulletin thing, then it was only a case of extending the warranty from 3 to 6.

2006 being well outside that.

This is really good info. A Jazz we looked at in a dealers was red rust all in the spare wheels well and ours, despite being dry has a rusty jack base which indicates it has been wet... and might be again. I'll check out the seams and stay bracket.

This is a well known problem but an easy fix. It only came to my attention when I noticed a rusty jack and spare wheel, and then looked on this forum for a solution. The cracked sealant at the top of the boot hinges needs resealing, which I will do myself within next few months. I rang my local Honda dealer at York and they said it was a known problem and would charge £120 to fix and paint it.
