Emergency 'get you home' tyres

Hi all,

I've finally decided to invest in an emergency spare tyre instead of the puncture kit that came with the car. My local Honda dealer has quoted me £187 all in (fixing kit etc). Does that sound a reasonable price to you or should I be doing the e bay scouring?  It doesn't sound overly expensive to me  but you advice would be appreciated.

If you use the search function of the forum for  'spare wheel' you will find lots of members ideas and opinions, for example a Rover space saver wheel is compatible with the Jazz. No need to pay dealer prices , unless you want to !

A Honda dealer told me that he has loads on back order and cannot get them for love nor money.

I bought a 15" steel wheel and a corresponding tyre from Oponeo. Each cost about £37.

I found a good secondhand 16" alloy wheel and tyre  on Ebay for £60. Fits perfectly in the boot tyre well.

My wifes GE 1.4 Si came without spare,  so rather than waste best part of £200 on a space saver i got a set of 175/65 R15 Nokian (Finnish) winter tyres fully fitted and balanced on steel wheels from mytyres.co.uk for £320 - now in the summer she has a full size spare winter tyre and in the winter a full size summer tyre in the boot.

if you put your car make and model into mytyres site search they will tell you correct size.
