New Jazz Paint Defects
« on: April 09, 2014, 09:08:25 PM »
I took delivery of my brand new crystal black pearl Jazz on 010414.

When I got it home I noticed that there were some milky grey splotches under the lacquer on the bonnet, only noticeable when the vehicle is in the shade. Within a couple of hours I had the car back at the dealer and the warranty manager suggested it was moisture trapped under the lacquer and this might disappear on it's own after a while. Today I found a worse patch of these 'crows feet' marks on the rear of the roof, whilst I was cleaning it. Another visit to the dealer who reexamined the vehicle and found another patch on the bonnet that I had missed.

The dealer are getting their paint specialist to see the car with the intention of using a heat gun to remove these marks. If that does not work they will ask Honda if they can respray the areas under warranty. Has anyone else had this problem in the UK ? I have found a few references to water based paint problems in the USA and a Recall/ Extended Warranty on certain colours including crystal black pearl. This problem is described as 'crows-feet' in some USA posts and that's what mine looks like - a crow with pale grey paint on it's feet walking around the bonnet/roof.

The dealer has been fine about the problem and I can understand why it wasn't picked up on the PDI, but I can't say I am very enthused by a paint guy using a heat gun on my paintwork !

Mercedes had this problem on paint. It's caused by minute imperfections under the paint.

Any suggestion of a cure using a heat fun is risible. It MAY be a short term fix - weeks or months.. but usually imperfections are present in tens or hundreds...

I would photograph them keep a detailed account of all conversations and dates, express your concerns in writing.

The saga continues. This is a photo of one of many paint defects on the roof and bonnet - after 'dealer rectification' with a heat gun. Still awaiting confirmation from my dealer that they will re-spray.
