Very intermittant power loss
« on: November 16, 2013, 12:37:39 AM »
My 102000 mile 1.4 CVT Jazz has a very intermittant power loss. Occasionally for a fraction of a second the engine loses power and then recovers. The fault only occurs every few days and has been happening for several months and is not getting any worse. The only clue appears to be that the power loss is frequently associated with turning left and accelerating e.g. going round a roundabout and taking an exit. The only other time it has happened is when changing speed in a straight line like when speed limit changes locally from 30 to 40. I have read the posts about the EGC valve but the symptom does not seem similar. Any ideas?

I have a feeling there should be a switch on the brake pedal that cuts drive from CVT when brake is pressed (simply to prevent engine driving against brakes).  This switch went intermittently faulty on my wifes Fiat and the box kept losing drive at various inconvenient times (like pulling onto islands and when in a line of traffic etc). After the original Fiat dealer had kept the car for 2 weeks and changed the ECU and almost everything else on the car (except the switch) they gave it her back and said it was fixed.   Problem was still there though so we went to another local Fiat dealer for second opinion - straight away the technician said it will be the brake pedal switch,  cost about £20 including fitting - job done.   On Jazz may just be a loose connection on ECU or one of it's inputs or outputs, or low oil level if it's swilling around during certain changes of direction and acceleration.
Some people will only consider you an expert if they agree with your point of view or advice,  when you give them advice they don't like they consider you an idiot
