noise from front lower area
« on: October 18, 2013, 12:48:20 PM »
Hello experts,

i need help on solving this problem,  my GD 1 ( 2007 JDM model) has clocked 74000 km on lt, few weeks ago it generated a small dock ..dock like noise from the front end . i got the thing checked from a mechanic and he replaced upper strut mount , U bushings of the stabilizer bar .  unfortunately the sound is still coming when the car drives over pot holes and lightly uneven surfaces. absolute no sound when turning or running in highway . the stabilizer links all checked and good. after two weeks i went to HONDA dealership and diagnosed the problem . they checked entire strut assembly rack mounts and came to a conclusion that my struts might be faulty  ( even though the damping was satisfactory ) ; however i did not let them replace the dampers because i was fedup with trail and error works of these people. today i checked the strut assembly by my self and found a small noise and a play in the inner CV joint of the transmission axle . please advice me is this normal with the transmission Axel inner CV . all boots are nice n clear no tear or leak.

thanks for any advice.

Hi,

Normally if it's the CV joint it will mostly only make a noise when turning and you should see evidence with a torn boot or very dirty. The most common reason for this noise would be the sway bar bushings or links but you said this has been checked.
If it was the struts then the car would probably feel bouncy so I would check the tierod ends and the ball joints.

Good luck.

thank you very much stupot0041,

The HONDA dealership checked all ball joints and tie rod ends right in-front of me. it seems like  no problem with that too and i do not feel any difference in car handling either.     :'(  .could anyone check their drive axle  in park mode and advice me ? .. is it normal to have a small play ?

thank-you for all supports

hello people,

i checked the problem by my self  and found out it was the stabilizer link . many thanks for the forum people, (specially Jon Thompson )  :D  .The play is very hard to find even after disconnecting it (less than 0.5mm i guess) . first i disconnected two links and had a test drive n that was it !  .

be careful when buying after market drop links. This one should have a small twist angle between two ball joints. The straight ones will fail prematurely due to extra stress generated by strut geometry. I was  able to buy one only  from Honda dealer :'( . simple problem easy to fix but  expensive part( when compared with the car price ).  it was around USD 100 in Sri lanka.
