More woes... full beam lights only with indicator
« on: October 07, 2013, 07:50:36 AM »
After the tailgate and clutch my 9 year old Jazz has decided to throw another problem at me.

This morning it was dark so I put my headlights on... sidelights fine, full beam... nope - at least not until I operate the indicators :o
What is this?  It's not the bulbs as the lights come on when indicating... so what can it be?  A glitch?
After the clutch I'm dreading taking her back into Arnold Clark again.  :'(

Like I said, the sidelights are working perfectly, and it isn't the main beam bulbs... so any ideas?  ???

This car is a nightmare!  >:(

There was a recall regarding the headlight switch, check to see whether yours has been done.

It's not in the Service History... just had a few instances of exhaust and brake replacements, nothing about switches and electrics.

Another call to those delightful sharks at Arnold Clark looms I fear  :(

In theory you could disassemble the switch, but I would suggest purchasing a replacement.  It is not difficult to do.  Take off the cowling around the steering wheel and you should be able to access the screws that hold the assembly onto the column without removing the steering wheel

Disconnect the battery first

I'm not really mechanically minded.  I still have around a month on the warranty and don't want to invalidate that.  If Arnold Shark can fix it without cost to me, I'll be happy.
After being charged for the clutch replacement I'm not confident of that though  >:(

If its got a warranty they surely they should fix it?  What else do they get up to when you take the car there?

My neighbour took his Hyundai for a minor service.  About 4 weeks later he received a speeding fine.  The car had been "borrowed" whilst it was there and taken for a fast ride.  It was on a road he had never been on before, in a dodgy suburb.  I believe the mechanic got more than his knuckles rapped.

Well after being told I destroyed the clutch after 4 weeks of driving carefully and having to pay for it I wouldn't be surprised just WHAT Arnold Clark call non-warranty repairs.  >:(

happened to my brother-in-law as well,  while his car was in the garage being 'repaired' it was flashed by a Gatso camera.
Some people will only consider you an expert if they agree with your point of view or advice,  when you give them advice they don't like they consider you an idiot

Recalls aren't anything to do with warranty.  Take it to a dealer to fix it as part of the recall.  It'll take them a few mins to fix.   Think they address a wire or take a wire away or something.   They don't actually change the indicator/lights stalk.
