An OBD II diagnostic machine will pinpoint the problem quickly.  It could be any of several sensors, insufficient fuel (a blocked filter), dodgy spark plugs, water on the HT electrics...

Blocked injectors?  In the old carburetor days,  a really hot engine would evaporate the fuel and make it difficult to restart.  If you don't get a bright suggestion here, then an experienced mechanic might be called for.  Have you looked at the fuel filter?  They generally last years but there might be a big blob of muck in it.  Also, no cracked pipes (although you would smell petrol pretty fast)

i had that on a w reg seat ibiza it never got 100% better i used to have to put the throttle down a little bit when starting which you shouldn't have to do

that was Vapor lock and i took it back to the dealer as it was under warranty and i dont know what they did but it was about 80% better but i still had to give it some throttle on start up if i had reversed into a space but not if i drove in from the front

Engine coolant temperature sensor faulty. Though the engine is warmed up, the faulty sensor is causing the ECU etc. to behave as if it's a cold start.
