I am going to see a 1.4 ES CVT tomorrow with view to buying it. It is a Feb 2011 registration with 8800 miles on the clock.
I don't at this point know what the service book says. It may have had a Honda service in which case this post is not relevant, or it may have had a non-Honda service, or none at all.
As the Honda 3yr warranty should run until Feb 2014, I am concerned whether that is only valid if the car has had Honda dealer servicing.
Is this the case?
How strict are they?
Would Honda honour the 3yr warranty if it had a service now?
Thanks for any inputs.
Here is the sequel for anyone interested.....
I bought the car. It has not had a service.
Before buying it I discussed the situation at some length with the service manager of my local Honda dealer, who basically said that a warranty claim would depend on what had gone wrong. If the fault was potentially attributable to a late service, the warranty might not be honoured, but if it was in a component for which servicing was irrelevant (eg wiper motor) it would be honoured.
The dealer where I bought it (200miles from where I live) has given me a written document that they will repair any fault which is not honoured by Honda due to the service situation, up to the three year point. Standard exclusions of course.
The car seems immaculate with no suspicious factors. I feel the risk is low since it hasn't actually reached the mileage for the first service yet.
So very happy at this point. Price was good, and trade in for my Focus was good.
I have booked it in at my local Honda agent for the 9000m/12 month service next week, and will have the 24 month service done next Feb, so that it has all it's stamps, albeit the first one late.
Edit I should add I didn't go 200 miles especially to see this car! Its availability coincided with weeks trip south anyway.
