Honda Warranty conditions?
« on: November 01, 2012, 07:33:28 AM »
I am going to see a 1.4 ES CVT tomorrow with view to buying it. It is a Feb 2011 registration with 8800 miles on the clock.

I don't at this point know what the service book says. It may have had a Honda service in which case this post is not relevant, or it may have had a non-Honda service, or none at all.

As the Honda 3yr warranty should run until Feb 2014, I am concerned whether that is only valid if the car has had Honda dealer servicing.

Is this the case?
How strict are they?
Would Honda honour the 3yr warranty if it had a service now?

Thanks for any inputs.

I bought a new ES CVT a few weeks ago and asked the same question, the salesman told me as long as Honda parts were used (if needed) and you had this in writing then the warranty would still be good.

Here is the sequel for anyone interested.....

I bought the car. It has not had a service.

Before buying it I discussed the situation at some length with the service manager of my local Honda dealer, who basically said that a warranty claim would depend on what had gone wrong. If the fault was potentially attributable to a late service, the warranty might not be honoured, but if it was in a component for which servicing was irrelevant (eg wiper motor) it would be honoured.

The dealer where I bought it (200miles from where I live) has given me a written document that they will repair any fault which is not honoured by Honda due to the service situation, up to the three year point. Standard exclusions of course.

The car seems immaculate with no suspicious factors. I feel the risk is low since it hasn't actually reached the mileage for the first service yet.

So very happy at this point. Price was good, and trade in for my Focus was good.

I have booked it in at my local Honda agent for the 9000m/12 month service next week, and will have the 24 month service done next Feb, so that it has all it's stamps, albeit the first one late.

Edit I should add I didn't go 200 miles especially to see this car! Its availability coincided with weeks trip south anyway.

Another bit of sequel to probably complete the picture.

The local Honda Agent where I ams staying is doing the first service today, so I haven't got to wait a week until I am back home.

This Honda Service manager was very relaxed about the fact that the first service is 9 months overdue. He put much more emphasis on the fact that it has only done 8800 miles. Said the lateness wasn't a problem with that mileage, though I didn't push him on the warranty claim angle.

I had a bit of a Saga with my car - but no actual problems as such with the car itself
Too much to bore everyone with - but
When I bought mine they said it would be handed over fully serviced, cleaned, they go over it and do multipoint checks
it would have 4 tyres not below 3mm and in good condition.
well
I checked inder the bonnet and found a dirty oil filter and dirty oil - so NOT serviced
3 of the 4 tyres had bad cracks in them and one was below 3mm
The rear wiper was disintegrated
to mention a few things!
I insisted they service the car immedatly and they started on about variable service and it wasn't yet due
so I checked the book (now at just under 15k miles) and no service was recorded or stamped.
Anyway - they said no warrantee problems would occur as a result
Got the oil service and told them to switch OFF the variable service schedule (- which incidentally would have come up 2 weeks later when we were on holiday!!) So now it will be serviced regardless every year.
Happily I had a small cosmetic Warrantee issue recently which they honoured without question
But - to be honest - once out of warrantee I doubt I will ever darken the doors of athe Honda dealer again.
(partly due to additional saga not included here)
