creak noise over speed bumps
« on: December 19, 2011, 05:29:28 PM »
anyone else getting this in the cold/damp weather?

its ok on rough roads and speed bumps, but if you got to go over the centre of one i get a creak noise, probably a rubber bush on the anti roll bar, its only done 6000 miles, new in march and hasn't been mistreated.

thanks

Yes, I have a April 2011 EX CVT which has covered just 5000 miles since new. The noise you describe started yesterday and I would agree that it is on the nearside suspension, over speedbumps.

My previous car, a 2010 EX I-shift made exactly the same noises during the cold spell last year.
My dealer did have it in for an hour or so, and 'lubricated' something which cured it, for about a week!!
However the noise did disappear when the warmer weather arrived.

I will probably leave things now, until after christmas to see how it goes. If the noise is still there then I will go to bat, again!

It would be interesting to see if anyone has a solution, as whilst I agree one could just disregard the noise and turn the radio up, the problem should just not arise on a car of this age and quality.

Merry Xmas to all our readers.

There's been a topic about this previously if anyone can find it?
Seems like the EX's have more of an issue than most - perhaps its something to do with the suspension geometry on the larger wheels?
Mine creaks on the left hand side over speed bumps, but only in freezing weather. The Honda dealer have checked it a couple of times and not found anything wrong or wearing. And it hasn't got any worse after a couple of years. Bizzarre...!

Mine was fixed. Exactly the same symptoms as described in this thread. Worse in cold, dry weather... not noticeable if warm or damp. Took a couple of visits to dealer, though. First time the symptoms were heard by a technician with me driving but he couldn't identify the cause so couldn't fix it... next time they did fix it. So you might need to persist... There is a thread somewhere in this forum...

Ivytek - was was the exact fault diagnosed, and what was the fix?

It would be useful to know in case it starts up again soon and I need to batter my local dealer a bit.
Cheers.

i gave mine a jet wash underneath and the noise has vanished, even the next day in the cold weather, must have been some grit off the road or something

Rabiedmushroom... If I remember rightly it was simply reported back to me as a 'dry suspension bush' and the cure was a squirt of lube (of some sort) into it. A 'dry rubber bush' would appear logical given my repeated observations over time that wet\damp weather seemed to temporarily resolve it. A bit of moisture and rubber becomes slippery, doesn't it? To my ears it sounded exactly like a steel suspension component working within or twisting inside a 'sticky' rubber bush as the suspension worked its way over speed bumps and so forth.

It became annoyingly bad - except on wet/damp days where it was significantly quieter and mostly entirely silent  - and was fixed at around 7'000 miles under warranty. I'm sure it was a quick job most probably not requiring disassembly of any suspension components (as the car was not in the workshop for long) but as it was a warranty fix I do not have an invoice to refer to so cannot be more specific, unfortunately. However around 12,000 miles and almost 12 months later the noise has been... totally... absent. Silent.

No-one should allow themselves to be fobbed off by their Honda dealer... that obvious noise - at least in my experience - is plainly not at all satisfactory. Given the incidence of it seen here and in an earlier thread... let alone all those other GE Jazz owners who doubtless do not participate in this forum... IMO Honda UK may have dealer feedback and technical information on this issue.  Don't be fobbed off...

ive now greased all rubber bushings ect with no change in the noise, i think it must be comming brom the rubber components in the shock towers

can anyone else confirm my findings, i cant wait for warmer weather lol

solved the problem,  it is the two rubber bushes at the back of the engine on the anti roll bar.

WD40 didnt work, but silicone spray works straight away, silent suspension, lets see how long it lasts now, shouldn't wash away like WD40 either

..."the two rubber bushes at the back of the engine on the anti-roll bar... a squirt of silicone spray."
Very well done monkeydave! With reference to my earlier post about my experience I wish I could have been more helpful. Such a simple fix, it would appear. (In my post I did tell you that my car was not in the workshop for long when it was fixed.)

Hope the silicone keeps it silent for you, it probably will.

FYI monkeydave... the Honda dealer did mine at 7,000 miles, now at 23,000 miles a couple of years later and... STILL SILENT. Never a squeak or creak.

For anyone else with this problem, it's an absolutely quick and simple fix (would you agree Monkeydave?) for Honda dealers, too, I'd imagine. Should be FREE as a goodwill gesture because  it is simply not at all acceptable that a suspension on a new(ish) car be as noisy as mine certainly was.

Hi

I am wondering if I am suffering a similar problem of the niggly noise going over speed bumps and bumpy roads.

Was wondering if the solution might be as postred by Monkey Dave "two rubber bushes at the back of the engine on the anti roll bar".

Can anyone give me a heads up on how to locate these on the car and how easy / practical it would be for a complete novice like myself to look at rectify - spray with some silicon spray.

thanks Brapford
