Driver's door mirror adjustment not working
« on: October 09, 2011, 11:23:14 AM »
The electric door mirror adjustment on the driver's side doesn't work. The folding electric mirror and indicator work as normal, it's just the mirror adjustment itself. The passenger side works perfectly. It hasn't been cold enough to see if the heated mirror works.

I suspect the problem is following my Jazz's recent trip to the bodyshop where they possibly removed the mirror to polish out the scratches. It looks like something hasn't been reconnected, but is there anything I check just to be sure? I can't find a fuse for the mirror adjustment, just one for the heated mirrors.

Thanks.

Does the passenger mirror adjust - if so and you think the garage may have disturbed the drivers side
I would check the connections as shown here>

or look at the manual test for operation

fuses here

without seeing the car I would go for the mirror glass incorrect fitment then the drivers side wiring/connection for the mirror.

Either way you need to remove the door card, then the armrest so start with the door handle screw then use a piece of plastic to separate the armrest - run the plastic along the armrest - care needed but covered in recent forum postings.

The above links to the fuses diagrams are not the same as listed in the owner's manual or what is fitted to my Jazz.

I took the car back to the repairers and they found the mirror motor has failed. Seems a bit odd that just over ten days ago that mirror was removed to have the scratches buffed out but whatever....

They put it all back together and after I drove up the road I found my climate control panel doesn't work (including the heated rear window and mirrors switch), the outside temperature readout just shows a few dashes ('-----'  like when the mpg readout is reset) and the adjustment and folding for both mirrors no longer works! I had to be back at work so I phoned them to inform them of the problems and that I would in meantime check all the fuses and get back to them. I checked the under-bonnet fuses and all are fine; I was unable to remove any of the under-dash fuses though.

The driver's window had lost the AUTO function but I've reset it as stated in the manual.

Any ideas why all of sudden the CC, temp gauge and mirrors have just stopped working? What have they done?! Would these really be running off the same fuse? The manual suggests not unless I've missed something.

The GD electronic service manual shows the Powered folding wing mirrors and the Climate Control module (panel) come off the same under-dash fuse no. 10 (7.5A) for a 2006 GD1.  (No diagram for 2007 GD1)

Power for the rear windscreen heater goes through a relay that is operated by the Climate Control module/panel.

I had another go this lunchtime removing fuse no. 10 and it was indeed blown. I swapped it with the fuse for the radio as it is the same rating and I'd rather have my climate control back then listen to Chris Moyles! The climate control panel and outside temperature readout now work once again; the folding mirrors also work but the adjustment has now stopped working on the passenger side. As with the driver's side I can't hear the motors working.

My local Honda dealer has quoted £210 inc VAT and labour for the replacement motor (driver's side only). It seems funny that the passenger side has now gone!

The mirror adjustment motors and the mirror retracting motors share the same power going through the switch on 2006 GD1.  Given the mirrors fold/retract, then according to the wiring diagram, the single +12v and single Gnd connections to the switch are OK.

For both adjustment motors to mysteriously fail has got to be pretty remote unless they perhaps removed the passenger side mirror to test on the driver's side (if indeed it is possible), and didn't refit it properly afterwards.  I would make an educated guess it is perhaps more likely to be a faulty switch or wiring fault.

Might be worth checking the adjustment switch i.e. the one you slide left or right depending on which mirror you want to adjust.

Update:

I asked the dealer to have a look today during the service and the diagnosed a faulty switch. Quoted price for a new switch is £79+VAT.

Purchased a used switch off ebay. I did purchase one earlier this year but it got lost in the post (the ebay seller immediately offered a full refund though), then I put it off during the spring/summer as I was planning on trading in my Jazz but I never found anything suitable. Switches for models with folding mirrors are harder to find to so you have to keep an eye out on ebay.

The mirrors now working perfectly, even the driver's mirror now folds in more smoothly and no longer judders.

It was simply a quick swap job - remove side panel, push the mirror switch out from behind, remove plug and connect the switch.
