New Honda Jazz squeaky brakes
« on: September 14, 2011, 09:13:40 PM »
Hi

I got my jazz 1.2 s at the end of may and have only done 1000 miles.  My problem is my brakes are always squeaking and it's driving me mad!  I took the car to honda today and they said there was rust on or around and I should just do more miles and it will stop.  Is this correct?    I don't really drive it from 4pm till 9.00 the next day and only use it for school runs and errands.  They said it was collecting dust justing sitting outside my house.

Does anyone have any advice or thought?

Thanks.

Ozzie

The brake discs are basically steel, and will rust very easily, have a look after you have washed the car, the next morning they show signs of rust. As you brake the pads scrape the rust particles (rust dust  ;D) off, if this gets on the brake pads it will continue to make the discs squeak until it is removed by more braking. So basically the more you use your brakes the less squeaky they should be.

on squeky brakes:
I have these same experience before, all you have to do is let the mechanic change the brake pads both in the front and on the rear if the rear is disc brakes as well.
Try to chose a better quality pads, it is usually an oem spec, say a branded one, dont go for a ten pounder or less pads they give you nothing but noise.
Most of these noise are produced by low quality brake pads being used.
(try these brake pads brand "ferodo")

Hello Isalouh
I had similar problem in the first few months of taking delivery. I would sugest you examine the disks and see if they are groved as mine were. Honda was contacted and a new set of disks and pads were fitted (free). I was told exactly the same as you not using it enough. My car is a Jazz 1.4 EX i-shift April 2010. Since fitting the new disks I have had no problem same usage !!!
Hope you get it sorted don't let them fob you off. Regards Larry
