loss of acceleration
« on: September 08, 2026, 10:44:14 AM »
My Jazz has an occasional fault. Soon after setting off it loses power and the alarm/horn sounds. I limp back home but when I try the car later there is no problem. Honda mechanics test drive it and put it on the computer - no problem!

Where did you put your key? Sounds as if the key is close enough to start your car, but as you drive off it seems to lose its signal.
Could also be a faulty key battery, but you should get a reminder message.

The car can detect the presence of the key  even to the extent of knowing if the key is inside the car or just outside the car .If the keys are still  inside it wont allow 'keyless'  locking.  If its outside  it may object if you leave the ignition active.

As Marcus has alluded to it could be related to how you carry your keys. The key transmits proximity signals to the dashboard area. If these signals are obstructed they may be weakened enough the signal is unreliable . Especially if the key battery is no longer 100%. . This could happen if the keys are in a handbag, deep down in a pocket, or obstructed by an object such as a metal spectacle case .

For safety reasons I dont think a momentary loss of signal shuts the  car down whilst you are driving along , but could cause the electrical gremlins you describe.

I must admit I once forgot to remove my key from its fadaday bag and wondered why the car wouldnt start.  :-[  This bag is only thin metallised  cloth but blocks 100% of key transmissions.

When a mechanic tests the car its more likely they will have the key in their hand and place it in a good reception location and wouldnt therefore detect any problem.
My IQ test came back negative

I had a tile  (location tile) attached to the key ring and wondered if that may have affected

They're BlueTooth LE beacons. Very low power 2.4GHz. The key doesn't use that frequency.

But unwanted RF can affect the car's systems. A couple of years ago driving past RAF/MOD Sealand near Queensferry, NE Wales, on the A494, the Automatic Cruise Control would randomly drop out and not reset until I'd put the shift into Park. Even now, Android Auto Wireless will reliably drop connection and restart when I drive past the base (about two thirds of the times, but always at the same exact location).
