Door seal leak?

Hi guys, I wonder if its common for the 3rd generation Jazz rear door seals to dry out/shrink with age ( e.g. 10 years for my car) thus allowing water to run down and build up at the lower door seal groove  and then trickle down into the nearby footwell? I first thought  that water running down the window was  possibly leaking from unstuck door membrane and running out from the lower gap between the door trim and the door  metal shell to gather at the lower door seal groove so I had the door trim removed and  the membrane checked  and  re-sealed  but  the issue is still the same, i.e.after some rain  I still get water collecting at the bottom door seal groove and then into the foot well. The door has not been subject to accident repair or fixing at any time prior.  Honda dealership advise they would charge a fortune just for 'diagnostics'  despite the narrowing down of the cause. Any helpful ideas?

Not sure I can be much help here. There is certainly a known (I wouldn’t say “common”) issue of water leakage into the rear footwell; videos on YouTube about this. The usual cause is detachment of the door’s internal plastic membrane, but you say this has been checked so there must be something else going on. Check the drain holes underneath the door are not blocked. If the rubber seal itself is deteriorating then that ought to be detectable by inspecting it, looking for perishing, holes, or some foreign body obstruction (including underneath the seal). I think you can probably check whether it’s still sealing against the door by chalking round the seal.
