Dropping Drivers Seat...
« on: June 10, 2026, 07:03:35 PM »
The drivers seat on my 2016 Jazz has dropped/sagged "possibly due to the previous owner being over weight", is it possible to change the springs "if there are any" under the seat, if it can be done, has anyone replaced the springs, if so was it an easy job.....

I don't fancy buying a seat from a breakers because that could be in the same condition, the only way to check if the seat is okay is after the "new" seat has been fitted.......

At the risk of stating the obvious (apologies if so, but sometimes the obvious may not be obvious, if you see what I mean), have you tried adjusting the driver's seat to it's maximum height? If that's still too low, then fiddling around with the mountings or seat internals seems likely to be complicated because of the the sensors and pyrotechnics associated with the airbags and seat-belt tensioners. Maybe try a cushion?

I agree you need to be wary of electronic stuff ,including heated seats if you have them.

But if you, or an expert , are up for a bit major work you could investigate other possibilities.
My cunning plan may not be possible  -   Although drivers seat and passenger seat are probably not interchangeable as a whole  unit  maybe  just the upholstered seat bases are  identical and detachable, with some effort. . If so you may be able to swop passenger side for drivers side  , or obtain the part from a used passenger seat , which is less likely to have suffered the wear and tear of a drivers seat.

Or rather than a loose cushion  it may be possible to stuff extra cushioning  concealed under the existing seat upholstery. Again being wary of any electronic gismos.  An auto upholsterer might be able to help here.
My IQ test came back negative

It might be possible to get a new foam padding to replace the used one. Or you could get a car upholstering shop to add some padding under the original one. Or do it yourself. I have used all three ways in some other cars.

In the past, I have used a decent quality carpet underlay, as an alternative to foam. Just saying!
