2002 Jazz SE Sport, issues

I picked up 2002 Jazz SE Sport, one owner, 38,000 miles FSH.

It is yellow so paint faded ABIT and will need a polish. Clean otherwise.

This car has done around 1500 miles a year, my thoughts are lack of use maybe causing some issues.

Some issues I have found.

• A/C not working.
  Slight juddering pulling away from stop.
  Juddering on breaking.
  Remote keys not working.
  Screen jet motor not working for rear screen.
  Leak into boot.
  Wheel jack rusty, replace.

AC
AC had no pressure, topped it up and is holding pressure so far, but still not working. Fans not turning on, swapped working horn relay to AC fan position, still no joy. Have ordered two AC relays.

Will check if pressure holds and install new relays. If no joy will look at AC pressure switch and compressor thermal protector, condensor fan motor.

Fuses ok, removed for 10m to allow reset.

Juddering
Juddering pulling away, had improved slightly with some positive driving. The gearbox Oil is clean, like new. Last changed in 2024.

I have new honda oil on order with crush washer, I am considering doing a burnishing procedure prior to changing oil, thoughts?

The juddering on breaking is pronounced, going wait until gearbox oil changed before investing.
Given it's low mileage I don't think warped discs due to heavy breaking is the cause, possible a seized caliper, no vibration when driving.

Remote keys
Red light shoes on fob, will change battery anyway. Fuses ok, any thoughts?

Rear screen jet.
Front works fine, checked rear pipes, dry as a bone. Believe there is a one way under roof lining at back, could not locate it.
Ordered new pump as believe same reverse polarity pump for front and back.

Leak into boot
The leak over the years has caused wheel jack to rust away, also rust on boot floor, both easy to fix.

I will be sealing the n/s o/s welded roof seams, ordered some 3m sealant for this.

Any other issues I may have missed, but could need looking at?

As said FSH, engine oil looks fresh and very clean, it has been looked after mechanically.

I assume it's an automatic.... afraid I know nothing about those ....

There are two washer pumps .... one for the front screen, one for the rear.

To access them, jack up the car and remove the front offside wheel, then pull back the arch liner and you can get to them from there.

I found that a squirt of contact cleaner on the nozzle makes it so much easier to refit.

Many cars do have a single pump which by reversing polarity  runs backwards  . This reverses the water flow with a one way check valve diverting it to the rear washers .

But Used Mk1 washer bottle listings  on Ebay clearly show it has two pumps.   Was your research assisted by AI by any chance?   

Although I have no experience of the mk1 specifically, washer pumps can get clogged by  dirt,or even algae growth in the water, especially if plain water, or too weak a mix of washer fluid has been used in the past.  This can  either clog the pump , or a filter intended to protect the pump (,if it has one)   
 
If the problem is not electrical  you might ,with a bit of ingenuity, be able to clear a clogged pump/filter.  Eg by poking it out with some stiff wire, or trying to blow it out by detaching a water pipe  and blowing a mouthful of air or water in the reverse direction towards the pump.    (You could also do the  same towards the washer jet to check this section is not clogged.

I was able to clear algae from a Corsa pump and filter in this way  (That had a single,reversible, pump.)

Our 2003 model is definitely fitted with two pumps.

The front windscreen one on ours had developed a leak, and I bought an aftermarket one to replace it but it didn't fit properly.

So I went to a scrap yard and got both pumps from a 2003 model for £5 each which solved the problem and gave me a spare for the rear screen.

I've never heard of "burnishing" in relation to a gearbox before ....what does that mean?

It's unlikely (but possible) that they would have changed it.

I've used AI quite a lot recently, and it can be very useful, BUT I wish it would just sometimes say "sorry mate .... I just don't know" rather than just making things up.
