Sloshing noise?

Hiya!

I have had my Jazz since September and must say, I love it!.

However, after driving home from work this morning (I work the night shift) I stopped to pick up a parcel and when I stopped I heard a sloshing noise, not a little noise , a pretty loud noise like a fair bit of liquid was moving around.
It was coming from the passenger side .  The car was driving as good as it always has so no issues there.

The only thing really that I did , was when I got in the car at 5am, I sat and read my phone for a bit and had the demister on, it had been raining pretty hard too. 
Its got a full tank of petrol ...

Could I ask for any advice on what this issue could be please?

Hi Caroline, welcome on this forum! Good to hear you like your Jazz!

To me it sounds as if the drainage is blocked. Under the windscreen there is a space where also the wiper mechanism is located. This might clog up with leaves and dirt. After heavy rain water cannot (or only slowly) be drained and you can hear it moving around. Cleaning this area (and possibly opening the drainage) might do the trick. Also good for prevention of rust in that area.

Early Honda models with the magic seats didn't have the sophisticated fuel tank baffles so you may be hearing fuel sloshing about as the tank is underneath the front seats

I'm guessing your tank was under half full to allow movement ?

In my previous Jazz I would hear the sloshing noise frequently.  It is caused by petrol in the tank moving about especially when nearly, but not quite, full. The fuel tank in the Jazz is under the front seats as the hybrid battery is located between the rear wheels which is the normal position for the fuel tank in most cars and also it allows the Jazz to have the magic rear seats.  The sloshing noise is normal in older Jazzes and nothing to worry about.

But seriously,although it may well be petrol in the tank  my neighbours bushes  are shedding quite a lot of fluffy stuff and pollen at the moment.So it could be  Marco's  suggestion of blocked  drainage holes .    I would also open the car doors and see if they have any small drainage holes in the bottom. These can get blocked with crud , and water draining down the windows can pool inside the doors.  If blocked poke them clear with some stiff wire etc. (paper clip? . )  Having said this I have  just checked my mk 4 and cant find any such holes

If you were stationary with demisters on and the air con running, the liquid refrigerant can make odd gurgling noises that you don't really notice when driving due to the road noise etc.

Also, the condensed water from the air con evaporated can also make liquid noises as it drains away.

Maybe  not directly relevant  but the handbook for the mk 4, e-hev  specifically warns  that you may hear sounds typically generated by conventional  automobiles but  are normally masked by even louder noises which are absent in hybrids.

Sorry for the late reply, these night shifts are a killer at the moment.

Well i have checked what drainage holes i could find, I dont see any tiny holes like they describe i just have 3 holes about 0.5 cm in size that are just right at the very bottom of the door,  no water there,  checked the boot, dry, I just dont know what it is,  I checked where it could get clogged with leaves and debris.... nothing...

The petrol tank is full...
its getting on my wick now lol

If the noise is caused by the petrol in the tank it will stop when the level starts to drop.  That's what I found when I experienced the sloshing.
