AC condenser - replacement by an independent
« on: March 05, 2026, 06:45:16 PM »
Hi,
My 2019 Honda Jazz which has 25000 miles on the odometer has recently been serviced by Honda. I was advised that the AC condenser is damaged and leaking. Honda have quoted me ~£1000 to have it replaced. In the past I have always had work on my cars carried out by a dealership. Has anyone had an AC condenser successfully replaced by Kwik Fit or another independent garage?

I have noticed these being sold on E-bay for about £400 but who knows what quality and physical integrity they may have.

There is another thread currenntly on air con problems which I added to today so you may wish to look through that.......has a Honda dealer checked your VIN number to see if it's covered by the ongoing recall FOC for affected cars?

just noticed that you say it's a 2019 model (Mark 3) so my comments may be irrelevent talking about the current MK 4!!

Nissens & other good quality condensers are available on eBay for less than £100 and can easily fitted by a good independent for about £150 and about £100-£150 for the gas refill.
I had one replaced on a GD by an independent Honda specialist for less than £150 labour  & that included the old type gas refill.

Thank you UKjim
I phoned the local garage used by my neighbours and they are more than £400 cheaper than the Honda dealership.

have you lost your a/c completely or just hearing a hissing noise from the dashboard? before you part with your money you can buy a cheap gauge in halfords for £29 and check the pressure yourself. if low, you can buy a canister of r1234yf (unfortunately £99) and top it up yourself. it contains uv dye and if you really have a leak, you'll be able to see it with any cheap uv lamp.
never trust the dealer, they love replacing parts you dont need

I have just done one on our HRV.
£ 120 for the condenser and £110 for the R1234yf.
I also did my Civic which has R134.
In both cases bumper off job. Time consuming but easy enough.

If you pay a garage to do the work check that they fit all the screws and clips.
The screws will most likely be rusted and at least a few clips will break.
Stock up from Temu or even Amazon before you start.
Oh and check the new condensor has pressure and hisses when you undo the travel seals.
