Air Tag as a vehicle tracker

Would an Air Tag work as a vehicle tracker if I left one in my car?

I believe airtags incorporate specific features to prevent their use to track people without their knowledge. This includes alerting any nearby iphones that aren't the tag owner's, and also playing a sound. So any thief is likely to know they are being tracked, which presumably will persuade them to find and destroy the tracker, or dump/torch the car.

We are using a “Tile” tag which works with Find my on iPhone. Does not alert and tracks fairly well depending on car proximity to any iPhone.

Interestingly enough I upgraded my head unit to a joying unit, and as it's android it has the find my device enabled.
I also have a cheap data SIM in there so I can track it, it's also handy if you forget where abouts you parked at an airport etc.
