Air Con Compressor Clutch not operating
« on: July 30, 2025, 08:41:50 AM »
Hi, I have a 2011 Honda Jazz 1.4 i-VTEC CVT, and the air con is only producing hot air!  I've checked by looking down the LHS (from front) of the engine and the clutch pulley doesn't operate.

I'm hoping this might be the clutch relay . . . but I just can't find it!  On this car the main fuse panel is behind a pull-out hinged part of the facia to the right and below the steering wheel.  See attached pic there are several relays but they're not identified, and the nearby fuse chart in the footwell doesn't help.

Maybe the relay is somewhere else?  Can anyone help please.

I have a 2014 model, had exactly the same fault. It was the relay at fault and the garage fitted a new one.  They did say that they had to remove front nearside wheel,  and the wheel arch liner to get to it.  It is in a box with a water tight clip on lid.
They fitted a copy relay, not genuine Honda.  I had no issue with this as the Honda one had failed anyway.
If you don't get a full explanation here I will contact the garage for an exact location

Hi, thanks for that.  I'll have a look to see if this relay box under the battery is accessible, like the guy says.
If so, and the RHS relay is removeable I'll check it myself and replace it hopefully it is faulty.

AND cost me less than £200!! Thanks, I'll let you know (when it's stopped raining).

Well, interesting - the relay box shown in the YT video is not there on my UK Jazz!  I was initially disappointed but looking around under the bonnet I found it on the opposite side under the filler neck of the washer bottle, bingo!
Slightly tricky to remove the box lid but managed it and extracted the relay at the front of the box. There are three relays, two side by side and one by itself at right angles to the pair - that's the one I believe operates the AC magnetic clutch.
Using another YT video I have tested it with a 12v supply and believe it has failed. You need to be careful - applying 12v across the brass coloured terminals still caused an audible "click", but with power on you need to check with a multimeter for continuity across the other pair of terminals (copper coloured). There should be continuity, but on mine, power on, it's open circuit.

So, have ordered a new relay, and keep my fingers crossed!

Just to report it was indeed the AC compressor clutch relay, now all working fine, very pleased!
