Being quoted silly money to replace the input bearings on a just purchased  Mk1 1.4 SE, any recommendations in the Essex area
Thankyou

This might not directly answer the original question, but if I were in your position, I’d look into sourcing a low-mileage used gearbox as a replacement. It could end up being more cost-effective overall.

Hi, yeah have just started that search... bit of a minefield but your right could be the most cost effective way 🤔

Once you’ve sourced the replacement part, a mobile mechanic can come to you and carry out the installation. Gearbox replacement isn’t a particularly complex task for a professional, so the process should be fairly straightforward.

I left Mine alone and it was still going strong at 145,000 miles.
When I got the car it was on 72,000 and whining then.

That's pretty much where I'm at now.. No point in taking the risk with a cheap second hand box.
Have found somewhere in West London that have history of successful bearing replacement for £580 🤔... Hoping it's money better spent elsewhere!
