Magic rear seat ....... a worry?
« on: June 07, 2025, 07:36:58 AM »
I went away on a 3 day golf break last week, left the new jazz sport at home for the wife, she took our small dog to the groomers, put the dog in the back, on the floor strapped in with the seats up.
She pulled up at the groomers and as she went to get the dog out the double rear seat slammed down, fortunately the dog was in the space to the rear of the metal bar that slammed down.
This was a frightening experience because the dogs back could easily have been broken with the force of this bar. i have had a good look at it and cannot see how the bar/seat could have slammed down without it being fully engaged but it does seem that there is a very fine line between being locked in the up position and not quite there.
I practised this  a good few times yesterday and when it is not locked up it slams down with a frightening thud.
Just wondered if anyone else had this experience?.

The same thing happened on my Advance! (luckily no pets, just luggage involved)

I think the rear headrests to be the "culprits": If they are folded down to their lowest position they interfere with the folding process and prevent the locking mechanism to fully engage.

Once they are out of the way the seats fold closer to the backrest and the locks close more easily and tightly.

I havent used my magic seats very often as the “upright position “ obscures the rear view .  I do like to observe drivers who travel as close to my rear bumper as they can … 🙃

Yes, its very important to ensure that the lock is fully engaged by pulling down on the seat base before putting valuables on the floor.

I too have had the seat fall back when I thought it was locked in position, I now make a point of ensuring the seat is firmly locked in place

Same here

I pin mine up when vacuuming the rear and the big one needs a real push backwards

Let's be careful out there !

I've also encountered this problem. More care is needed to ensure that the seats are properly locked in the up position than on previous Jazz models.

You can hear a click when the rear seats lock to the upright position, but only if you first fold the metal bar in, and after that push the seat to the upright position.

I also try to avoid using the upright position as it blocks part of the rear view.

Never had it fall down because the first time I tried it, came back into my hand. Lesson learnt, a good shove up and always give it a good tug to make sure it has engaged before leaving it.

Yes, I don't like that either! (it seems to be a consequence of the Jazz getting longer with more space for larger rear passenger seats over the model years).

However, I found that folding up the smaller left portion behind the driver (that's for LHD cars! - I don't know how the split is on RHD cars) doesn't bother me as much as the wider right hand side seat.

Plus: We still got two side mirrors, which "magically" might provide an insight about what's going on behind us :D
