Help with CVT Fluid Type
« on: April 21, 2025, 06:46:21 PM »
Hi all,

Recently purchased a Jazz MK2 1.4 with the CVT gearbox. Its a 2014 facelift and I'm totally confused about what CVT fluid is correct after reading numerous posts on this site and elsewhere. Please can you help?

From my understanding there are two official Honda CVT fluids:

1. Honda CVT-Fluid ref. 0826099905HE
2. Honda HCF-2 CVT Fluid ref. 0826999905HE

Almost identical reference numbers apart from one digit.

Cox Motor Parts suggests HCF-2 from 2016 onwards (on this forum Cox was quoted to suggest using HCF2 from 2014 year previously but seems this has now changed on their website). I read that HCF-2 is died yellow.

My Jazz manual says use CVTF or if not available or in other countries use HMMF.

CVTF I believe is dyed pink and HCF2 is yellow. Looking at the oil colour in my car it looks yellow but then I don't know if the last change was correct or if aftermarket fluid was used of a different dye colour.

Seems to be lots of alternativen non Honda fluids available for CVT that are compatible with various Honda CVTs but some mention not compatible with starter clutch CVTs. Some say not for 2001 to 2007 but wasn't that the same CVT box as what is in the facelift MK2 from 2011 to 2015?

In summary please does anyone have a definite answer on the correct CVT fluid for this model and year of Jazz or any link I can refer to in order determine?

If it's HCF2 it looks like I'll have plenty of options rather than just Honda branded fluid (think they use Idemitsu fluids in honda bottles).

Also does anyone know what gearbox code in this car or where it's stamped as I think that would help me find the right info.

Thanks very much,
Russ

I would have thought the original CVT reddish fluid for Mk2 , however if you want to be dead sure run the VIN on the coxmotorparts.co.uk site and you get the officlal answer .
Mk 2 2008-15 these last ones were made in Swindon UK with plenty around at dealers into 2015 upto July so check the passenger door vin details.
The Mk3 totally different animal made in Japan again see your vin plate

Thank you.

You were right it was red! When looking at the oil on the dipstick there was such a small amount you couldn't really see it was slightly dyed red.

After checking with Cox as suggested they fully confirmed I needed CVT-F and has a red dye.

Gearbox oil flushed, run, emptied and refilled. First empty of oil was filthy. Didn't look that bad but when in a container could see it was really dark almost black.

Second empty and it was much clearer and red was visible.

After a nice long drive today it's much smoother and also noticed mpg was rising but that may be combination of new gearbox oil and new tyres combined.

I bought the genuine Honda fluid from Holdcroft dealers on eBay as cheapest, free UPS delivery and they were very local to me so got next day.

If anyone is thinking of doing it themselves it is fairly easy if you have jack and axel stands. Also a manual pump or very long funnel to reach the CVT fill hole from top of engine bay.

Thanks
