Maybe a strange question,but how do I know if I don’t ask?
« on: April 12, 2025, 07:27:12 PM »
Here goes : This here Jazz Mk 4 Hybrid (2023) is my first of an electric type car.
Well, I am getting used to a strange sound echoing off other vehicles when in EV mode on the supermarket car park, for example .

So there I was at my local Asda(any supermarket,Asda not really relevant)
🤣 and pulled onto the car park and she(the car,not my wife) was quiet as a church mouse…but..there was this rather strange sort of quiet ,and no other way to describe it,’scraping’ sound as I was driving slowly around..a sort of intermittent scraping as though dragging a cardboard box beneath the car(nowt there).

Wifey just said it’s definitely coming from engine compartment and it was in EV mode(unfortunately what she knows about cars is not worth remembering, and I only know a little more😃..

Anyway, parked up,got my blueberries(not relevant, but tasty) and pulled away and scraping noise gone!

Does the panel think A/ just forget, there are more things to worry about B/ I’m going loopy C/ is Trump involved or d/ YOU or someone you know has experienced this strange EV noise but it’s nothing to worry about

Thanks for reading. Still enjoying it but keep getting miffed when I forget to shift to ‘P’ and use the power button to switch off and it will not,or forget to press brake pedal as well ! Aaaarrrgh! So much to remember at my age!🫣

Stone in disc brake?

I had a small stone that flicked up off the road, and lodged in the calliper. It made a slight scraping noise, which could only be heard at crawl speed.

It could be the deliberate  pedestrian awareness noise made by electric vehicles.  People describe it in many ways, although I have never heard it described as dragging a cardboard box.  I call it a  sort of surreal alien noise  a bit like we imagined flying saucers made in the 1950's   ( real flying saucers  have improved  over the last 50 years and the latest ones are now silent   ;D )  Its a sort of ultra sonic noise that  attracts the attention of pedestrians  without actually being loud.    It comes and goes depending on the speed of the car and whether its in EV mode  or not.

Either that or have you looked around for an actual  squashed cardboard box ?    ;D

Honda do warn you  in the handbook that the car is sometimes  so quiet that you start to hear various fans  etc running that are normally inaudible over the engine noise of 'normal' cars.

Also as Nicksey says possibly a stone  or  a bit of surface rust on the  brake discs.

The description seems like the pedestrian awareness noise when in EV mode. When you restarted after shopping the engine may have started and the EV artificial sound would have stopped.

I think it’s probably the pedestrian awareness noise

When I’m parking up and going from drive to reverse at low speeds I notice the sound

If it’s that then there’s no need to worry about it
