Advice on exhaust gasket

First post, thanks for any help. On 04 Jazz, just putting new back box on, comes with fibre gasket, not seen these before, are there any pics/advice re exactly how these fit? does it fit completely over the mid section exhaust before bolting on back box? cheers Pat

 Check out this  youtube video.  You can (as I did) skip most of it. Fitting the gasket is shown at around 8 minutes.

thats really useful, thanks, thats how I guessed the gasket should sit, but on mine, it wont fit onto the centre section due to either being sent the wrong diameter or there is gunge left over from before that has enlarged the diameter so it wont fit

Looking again at the video  the centre section pipe seems to have its diameter expanded   slightly for a short distance just before it passes through the flange that bolts it to the rear  box pipe.  Thus the short section  to which you fit to the gasket should also be this same expanded diameter, if its clean. 

 If you measure the diameter of the expanded  pipe  on the 'clean side, and compare it with the diameter on the short stump you will know if this can  be cleaned up enough for the gasket to fit.  The gasket might also expand a bit.  If this still doesnt work you may need to buy a different size.

If you havnt got a pair of calipers that will measure the pipe diameter maybe  a large adjustable spanner could serve the purpose.( You dont need an actual measurement, just to compare  how each  bit of pipe fits between the jaws )     Failing that you could establish  the pipes circumference by wrapping a piece of string or strip of paper round  the pipe and mark where the ends cross,  then use the same string/paper around the short stump to compare.
