Grrr and grrr again…phone connection or not
« on: December 23, 2024, 04:06:41 PM »
Yes,I am a new owner of this all singing and dancing Mk 4 but it made one a bit mad today:

Will try to explain. My phone is connected and have used it for navigation etc.Great.

Today I was sitting in the car and looking at my phone,as you do,and it connected to the Honda infotainment system,as it does, then the radio went quiet and I couldn’t get the nice lady singing on the radio whichever ‘button’ I pressed on the screen…then I saw on the screen behind the steering wheel a message showing a box inside which it said “My phone” and directly underneath was the word “cancel” and to the left a figure of a face with speech marks…well I didn’t want to necessarily have my phone connected at this time so I tried to activate “cancel” using that little wheel on the steering wheel but no it wouldn’t cancel nor would it scroll up to “my phone :D”….cant explain any better…so I switched the phone off and the radio came back on again.

Yes,I am a little confused and I noticed that when I use the google map navigation on the system the radio goes off and I can’t see which radio station is playing anyway as the navigation takes over..

Sorry if a little confusing but it seems that the only way to stop my phone taking over the whole system is to turn Bluetooth off I guess.. :'(

There must be others getting a little confused with all this malarkey? Or am I the only one to own up! ;D

Thanks for any input even if it’s ’you’re Just an old git as it’s all so easy’ :o

Anyway I am trying!!

Something is not right there

I can play the radio and it only gets muted when a navigation command is issued

Have a look at your phones Android Auto settings
Let's be careful out there !

I don’t know whether you have an Apple or Android phone

Is the icon on the dash like the one below?  If it is, and this is just a guess, it might be waiting for you to use Honda or Siri/Google Assistant Voice Controls

You could try it. On the left of the steering wheel there is a button with the same speech symbol on it, if you press it and release it you are using the inbuilt Honda voice control but if you press and hold it you are using Siri/Google Assistant instead; you could try speaking your command (Cancel etc) using the Honda and/or Siri/Google Assistant voice control

As I mentioned it’s just a guess but it doesn’t hurt trying

The other thing that springs to mind is to try the back button on the left of steering wheel (to the left of the little wheel)

On your other point re: navigation & radio I’m really not sure about

Apple iPhone. Maybe I’m getting confused (not difficult). I’ve played around and found there are different ways to use google maps. Without sitting in car difficult to explain but if I recall if I have full screen of map and audio directions then I can’t see radio station anyway and don’t hear radio, but there is a way to keep the radio screen on(if you see wot I meen) and get audio directions with no map….i will come back here after a test run :'(

But as I said earlier when I was looking at phone it became auto connected with the info system and then the question about ‘my phone’ or ‘cancel’….seems from another post that I have to ‘talk’ to this thing! Whatever next! Haha. I just wanna press buttons..what I may try in future is just to have directions showing on phone without using the info screen then I can play with the radio stations etc. Having the map on that screen is great but it obliterates all other info/options.

Appreciate your reply

Yes that is the icon and I couldn’t remove it…seems I have to say something to it? Like F Off?  :D ;D

I hear what you say but this all needs to be played with but sometimes I haven’t got the time to sit there and mess with the equipment and even when I figure something out I then have to recall what I did for next time.

I am finding this info system not the easiest. I think there’s too much stuff now which in all honesty is not necessary. How on earth did we all manage 20 years ago?
I have always thought that the more buttons/symbols there are the more things that can go wrong.

I am am not wishing to go back in time. The car is great and so easy to drive. Maybe if I just stick to my AA road map all will be well and all will be well! Haha

I could ask my partner to read directions off the map. That’s it! She won’t talk over the radio and when I say ‘ok,I’ve got it’ she will shut up!

Again,thanks for reading my nonesense.

Merry Xmas all

Could you have accidentally pressed the steering wheel talk button ?

You accidently deleted a closing quote command [/quote] too many, which turned your reply into part of the quote.

Could you have accidentally pressed the steering wheel talk button ?

This is one option. Another possible (more unfurtunate) explanation could be an intermittent contact on the steering wheel's talk button.

Maybe you should talk to your Honda dealership about this after boxing day.

Thanks all I have solved it!

You won’t believe this but: when I opened my phone it shows 5g and a strong signal but when I opened google maps it tried to connect to the Honda system and there were errors and things happening etc showing on the infotainment screen and not able to cancel etc. Basically not connecting.

Anyway I looked at phone and even though there was a good signal the map was not functioning…didn’t show a route or even much else..nor did anything else work on the phone..VERY STRANGE..

Anyway today checked phone and still an issue.Strong signal but no connection.

So,I thought phone needs a repair(iPhone 12). But it worked on Wi Fi so it cannot be broken….i was pulling what’s left of my hair out.
Done know why but I checked for phone updates and lo and behold it was asking for update to iOS 18.2.

I updated phone and suddenly I got mobile data coming through again!!
So so chuffed for a technophobe like me to get it working!

All is now fine with phone and car connection..

I have emailed Apple about this ( I realise this is a Jazz forum but may help someone :-*)
Two issues here:
1/ I have auto updates on iPhone and this update didn’t happen automatically..
2/ Apple need to be aware of this issue and email people to inform them that the mobile data can be affected as it requires to be updated to this new iOS.

And breathe!

So so relieved. It wasn’t my fault after all. Nor Honda issue.
Someone earlier said something not right and he/she was spot on!

Well done for getting it sorted  ;)

It’s good to know that it wasn’t a Jazz issue after all
