Reliability 3years old and beyond
« on: February 06, 2024, 11:41:33 AM »
My Crosstar will be 3 years old in June. Mileage 10,000. From the forum I sense there aren’t too many problems with the Mk 4, examples being near side wing mirror not folding, 12 volt battery issues and recently windscreen delaminating.

So, as I didn’t take finance, my warranty is 3 years and expires in June, but I did buy the service pack so have another 2 years of complimentary servicing. Assuming I keep the car another 2 years, mileage no more than 5000 pa, is the extended 2 year warranty at £750 a sensible purchase? Whether I take this or not, I would need breakdown cover and I am guessing 2 years would be £150. The extended warranty includes this making net cost £600, so is it worth it?

Dealers will extend the Honda roadside assistance for free if you get the annual servicing done by them. As you have another two years of dealer servicing already paid for, the breakdown assistance won’t cost you anything.

If you're only doing 3300 a year, is it worth it?

I could understand buying extended warranty if you were putting the miles in, even at the average of 12000 a year... but 3300!

Save yourself the money and just get a couple of years AA cover.

Totally agree with above. You would need to be extremely unfortunate for something to go wrong. I would however check that your garage servicing includes entitlement to free breakdown cover. I think if you were paying for each service that might be the case, but with the 5 year package I doubt it . I have that 5 year service package, but also paid additionally for the extra 2 year extended guarantee, which also includes breakdown cover.

I wouldn’t take out warranty for such a low mileage . I don’t believe in normal use you will be stopped from getting from Ato B -more likely to be something like a failed LED light unit -incidental to the driving side . The hybrid power train should be robust as it has an elegent design simplicity to it . Go look a VW Audi or Skoda owners forums for big issues - rejected cars -major engine / gearbox issues -incompetent dealers or extensive warranty arguments .

Mine's nearly 4 years old and I've got the service pack, I only do low miles so not worried about lack of warranty. I'm keeping mine until I've had the last free service then will consider other options although I can't see anything more suitable for me than the Crosstar currently so I might end up getting another if there's no mk5 Jazz on the horizon.

I bought my Jazz as a last car. I am 62, and have always changed cars after about 3 or 4 years. The Honda Jazz was purchased because of the hybrid technology, but more for Honda's reputation of long term reliability. It came with the 5 service pack, so I figured that if anything was to go tits up with the motor/system it would happen within this warranty. I fully intend to keep it long after this period, and judging by today's technology, know the car will be good for at least 100,000 plus. I enjoy driving it, it is the smoothest, easiest and most comfortable car we have owned... so why change it.

Will your Jazz last you for 38 years?
Prince Philip was driving in his 90s, don't know if he had a Jazz though :D

Prince Philip RIP / in his 90s / driving a Range Rover / in London /….. must have saved hard for his insurance!

Seriously though, reading the insurance threads on here, having had a 70% increase from my MK3, (but still sub £400): I fear my renewal.

I think that our insurance sponsor on here, will be getting a phone call!

There are people with Jazz/Crosstars in my area far younger than me  ;D

38 years? I won't be driving much past my 70s. I am fortunate to live close to amenities, I play hockey at a pitch that is less than a mile away, we quite enjoy bus trips and we also have push bikes. However, the main reason I won't be wanting to drive is because how dangerous the bloody roads are becoming  >:( :)

Thanks to all those who have replied on this thread.

From the separate posts by Big T and his brake failure problem, having the extended warranty saved him a major expense. Of course, I guess the majority of Honda Jazz (hopefully) will never have this particular brake issue.

I'm always getting confused about the five year package, that some buyers obtained for free early in the MK 4 sales.  Its 5 year warranty, 5 year service, and 5 year recovery - right?

Yes, but 3 year manufacturers warranty, 2 year extended guarantee, which basically covers most essential parts. It was not necessarily all free, but costed into a package.
