I live in a rural area with many winding roads. The auto high beam reacts too slowly in those circumstances.
I deactivated about 2 weeks after buying the car. In the 15 months since I have probably genuinely need high beam about 3 times.

. Once you've seen them, you can of course pull that stalk... ;)

Precisely.  You should be monitoring the situation and in some situations may need to pull the stalk. All driver aids currently need to be supervised, with the driver in ultimate control.  But  some drivers  are lazy and leave it to the car ,or may never have been taught there is a need, or the hazard perception skills required.

How many who have only ever driven a car with auto lights  will have the empathy to realise  they might still be dazzling pedestrians etc .

Old git rant - Some will have little experience of being a pedestrian. Always  Dropped off at school by car .Many young adults  near me will wait 20 minutes for a bus and pay £2 fare rather than walk downhill for 15 minutes. :o    I always walk there and back, even though I have a pensioners bus pass.   How they can the youngsters ever afford to commence a lifetime of buying vapes?

I wonder how much of the above is due to auto dip or main beam
Let's be careful out there !

The auto-dip headlights don't allow for people emerging from side turnings either, I do mine manually now. I've also adjusted the headlights one notch down from the '0' setting as that was too high (for a Crosstar).

I had to adjust my beam aim down  due to extra  luggage  in the boot.   There are probably quite a few drivers who ought to be doing the same.  8) I did mine by stopping  a few metres behind a parked car  then adjusting it until the beam cut off was just below the cars windows.
