Condenser
« on: July 02, 2023, 09:04:25 PM »
I need a new condenser for my 2012 Jazz, as mine now has a cracked in it. My garage is struggling to find one to fit. Honda charges £640 for just the condenser (generic ones are around £150), which is extortionate, Has anyone experienced this, and found one that  fits which is reasonably priced? Second hand apparently won't work as they are too fragile.

Is the £150 generic one made  specifically to only fit  the Jazz?     Its possible  that a generic one is a 'one size fits all '(near enough)  on a variety of cars.   If you google the part number of the generic condenser  it may throw up other cars that it also fits  - You could then  research those cars to see if you can find an original equipment part at a more reasonable price . But I doubt you would find an new  OE one cheaper than the generic one, especially if it needs some extra work to fit ,or the added labour of carefully removing a good used one from a car at a scrap yard.   And any attempts that fail involve extra expense regassing the system again etc.

With old classic car radiators there are specialists who can solder leaks  or even hand build a radiator using new cores etc. .  An aircon specialists rather than a general garage may be more familiar with alternatives that could be made to fit, or  leak repair specialists or techniques?  But it may not be cost effective, except for rare exotics where parts are literally unavailable rather than just exorbitant.  And your garage may already have explored these avenues through trade contacts.
