I wasn't able to get a pin sent to my car for ages - it would recognise my VIN in the app but wouldn't let me proceed further. In the end I logged a support ticket with Honda. Their (much delayed) response suggested that they had tweaked something in the background but I'm not so sure. However, they did send updated pairing instructions which when followed to the letter did allow me to eventually pair. Here's the instructions they sent:
Below are the conditions that have to be met so that you can pair with you Honda vehicle:
1. Please make sure that the vehicle is located in an area with a good and stable network signal.
2. Make sure the location and data sharing is turned on from the infotainment system inside the vehicle.
3. Make sure that the vehicle is not using Wi-Fi but the 4G from the unit.
4. Before attempting to pair, kindly put the car in "Ignition ON" position.
5. The car needs to remain in "Ignition ON" position until the pairing process is completed.
6. Please note that the front driver seatbelt needs to be fastened throughout the entire time.
7. Assure that the region of the account you are trying to pair matches the region the vehicle is registered in.
8. Please enter the VIN in capital letters only. Lower case letters will fail to generate a PIN.
9. Please make sure that the date/time synchronisation setting is set to automatic from inside the vehicle's infotainment system.
10. The PIN may be sent to your inbox. Be sure to check there for any messages.
11. Each PIN request made through the app is going generate a PIN code, even if it is not received on the digital audio display and each PIN is valid for 10 minutes and automatically becomes invalidated if not entered within this timeframe, therefore avoid making multiple requests one after the other within a short period of time, as that would cause all of them to contradict each other and become mutually invalidated. Instead, wait for 10 minutes to pass before making a new attempt.
