Air Con
« on: July 15, 2010, 12:49:18 PM »
Hi

Anyone any idea how often the air conditioning unit should be cleaned.  I have heard reports that when not used for a while (ie over winter) that bacteria can build up.  Is it a job to be done at Honda or is it a DIY job?

Anyone had it done at a dealer and how much did it cost?

Having had a number of cars supplied with Aircon from new and kept for up to 4 years. I have not had Aircon specifically cleaned or serviced just normal routine services for the car. However I have always ensured that the Aircon is used regularly including during the winter. When ever possible I understand that it is good practice to turn on aircon about once a week to ensure that seals do not dry out dry out. The early cars I had with aircon were quite high mileage when changed but recently cars have been low mileage when exchanged.

I use an air con cleaner every six months.

There are several on the market, that take the form an aerosol that you let off in the car with the air con running. Takes about 10mins.

Had no problems with air con just keep using it all year round not just in the summer.

My 'A' class M-B was 10 years old when I chopped it in for my first Jazz. There was never any work done on the aircon in all that time!
As csp says, just keep it in regular use.

HI guys,
I bout my second hand Jazz last may and a week later noticed that air con did not work( My fault I  didn't checked it when I bought it).The thing is everything seems to be OK : clutch is clicking when AC is turned on, two fans are turning on as well, the pressure in Low line of the system is around 50ps as it should be according to the specs for AC.So it does not need top up.I don't know what else I can do myself without seeing  an AC specialist. Any suggestions ?

The maintenance of my air con is every quarterly. However, I am not the one who performs the cleaning because I have no idea how to do it properly. You can hire someone to do it for you at first. Watch and learn to see how it is done so that next time you can do it yourself.
