I imagine we are being gradually lead towards autonomous or guided vehicles where the unpredictable nature of humans is removed from the equation. In the future maybe, we'll be able to control our car on low speed roads, possibly with speed limiting, but when we need to use faster roads the vehicle will be controlled externally. The driver will have no control over speed and spacing;  even exiting the road will be programmed. The vehicle will be made to come to a standstill before the driver is allowed to take control again. This all seems pretty possible to me, especially with electric powered vehicles because they lend themselves to being controlled externally.

I'm not expecting to be around when all this happens  :-X

Have you noticed how quiet it has gone on autonomous vehicles for last few years, and how many have dropped out,  no 'big breakthroughs' announced.  Getting autonomous vehicles is a mountain to climb,  and it makes Everest look like a molehill...  but just like Everest the higher you go the harder it becomes.
Some people will only consider you an expert if they agree with your point of view or advice,  when you give them advice they don't like they consider you an idiot

Yes, even the new spotless test vehicles have had shunts. Put one on a dirty country road where the sensors will get covered.

They're fine as airport shuttles at 15mph max though :)
Let's be careful out there !

Remember the old science fiction films and TV?  . People in advanced silent vehicles, with robots doing the housework and, instant communication and such stuff.  .
We're getting there. But they never imagined the angst, range anxiety  , subscriptions to  providers, rival sytems, etc that is the reality.

I almost left out the term autonomous, (too many variables). In my nightmare the vehicles will be guided along routes like so many railway trucks.

I often think "user friendliness" is now a forgotten concept, not just in motoring but in society generally. I read somewhere that most motorists "ignore" a significant amount of the tech on a modern car. Is the success of Dacia down to a desire for simpler products?

I use cruise control and reversing camera and that's about it.

Cruise Control on the MK4 Jazz is the most controversial feature, I reckon.

I don't think so. Their succes is in my view down to less €,$ or £ for the same (or more) space.

ACC most controversial? I thought that was RDMS... or was it LKAS? Or maybe still CMBS?  ;)

I think the controversy is with the automatic sign recognition with cruise control, probably not a feature I would use !

In fact, I think you couldn't possibly use such a function...
I suppose you're confusing ACC with the "intelligent" speed limiter, which is supposed to recognize road signs...

I’ve actually found CMBS on the Jazz to be one of the better systems - no issues at all.

CMBS on Volvos doesn’t really like roundabouts or pedestrians/cyclists/cars on the pavement and coming towards you.

I’ve also had false alerts on a newer Auris hybrid with the CMBS not liking winding urban roads with cars parked on the side.

I've also heard reports of Tesla systems being totally confused by the flashing lights of emergency vehicles  and ploughing  into crash scenes.  I'm all for them trying for perfection with these systems ,but not with us as the test dummies.  Even if many drivers are dummies.

The ACC is the very bad thing of my Jazz. I was hoping for an update from Honda but I guess there is nothing to expect
The matter is that my Jazz can even be dangerous for the driver following me
