Vibrations and louder sound in cabin after clutch change.
« on: August 04, 2021, 09:15:25 PM »
Hi all.

Looking for a suggestions, ideas so i went for a help here to smart people  :)

My 2004 jazz GD1 1.3 dsi clutch started to slip so it went for a change 2 weeks ago.

When i got a car back after like a week of driving i noticed around 1800 rpm to 2200rpm in higher gears 3rd little bit 4th and 5th more...
There's a loud noise in cabin when slowly accelerating in between these rpm's.
All cabin sounds louder and vibrations coming out like from accelerating pedal. Hard to describe really...

What I'm worried about is that when i bring it back to a garage to will just turn me away with smtn stupid... After i got a car back they told me that cv boot needs changing and engine mount... Funny that to change clutch they could give me a call and offer to change it as they taking axles out anyway (am i right) and for engine mount never had vibrations and other mechanic - mate said both parts look alright... Definitely the engine mount.

Any suggestions about sounds coming would be much appreciated!

Thanks  8)

The symptoms describe a failed rear engine mount, the rubber cushion in the rear  mount having perished and disintegrated,  I find the opinion of the garage accurate and truthful.

When the car is  accelerating , the engine puts more load on the engine mount and then the noise increases.

When reversing does the noise become worse/ better / the same?  Reversing the car loads the rear engine mount in the opposite direction

Image attached,  Part 2 on the image would be the one I would check first.

I would not put off replacing a failed mount for too long,  the unwanted movement of the engine can put mechanical strain on the exhaust system, in particular  a cracking of the shell  of the catalytic convertor

Bud you're a legend!

They told me that it's a rear one closer to gearbox but don't remember which side! Is it known how much is to chenge that in garage as i don't think i will be able to do it.

One question though... Why it didn't made sound before clutch change at all!? Is my theory that because clutch helped car losing power so sound wasn't (slipped) present!?

Removing the gearbox to replace the clutch probably finished of a tired mount.

Do you bud or anyone know what exactly is the part called or its number!?
And i can't seem to find in manual how to change that mount if it's the right one or any videos either.
Any help appreciated.

See my earlier post with the diagram, (you may need to be logged into the forum to access the diagram)

Parts 1, 2, 5, 8 are engine mounts,  from your posts reporting the opinion of the garage,  I suspect part 2 to be the culprit, however, at £200 per part, you need to be sure as ordering the wrong part will be an expensive exercise.  I would give the  job to a garage

Thought i will give an update.

Took car to two different garages and both said place where clutch was changed think wants to rip my pockets... No leaking cv boot and engine mount is sound.

Suspecting some vibrations and sound from exhaust area, gearbox oil level low or clutch bedding in.

Will do more examination with known mechanic and see what happens.
