What can your Jazz do (MPG)?!
« on: April 28, 2010, 09:29:00 PM »
Well, I thought I should share this with you ... 60 MPG! with one tank. A longer trip today helped  :P
I will never do it again!!! but in case of a fuel crisis its good to know what Jazz can do  8)
After this mileage I filled up 38.5l of gas. Huh, next gas station wasn't so near  ???

Now the weather has warmed up a bit I am getting an indicated 58mpg on my normal commute to work.

Just shows what a bad effect the cold weather has on fuel consumption because a couple of weeks ago I was getting around 51mpg on same journey.

eljuero, is your trick computer accurate ? Is real economy figure 4.7..

My Jazz's TC is not accurate about 0.5 l/100km..

I changed my job last month and now im driving a lighter traffic but its notorious Istanbul traffic anyway..

My last tank was 4.8 (58-59 mpg) on trick computer but actual figure was 5.11 (55-56 mpg) ..

TC says my current economy is 4.7 (60 mpg) but Im sure it will be 5.0 (56-57 mpg) at least

On highways with the help of light foot technique getting 60 mpg is not hard I think.Im too much pleased with Jazz fuel economy..

My metric figures can be monitored at spritmonitor by searching user xrayted

@culzean
Wow  ;D if 58 MPG is normal for you. 6-6,5 l/km is normal for me if I don't care for MPG.

@Garyman
 :o trip computer information or real one ... Jazz R-Type :D

@x-rayted
No, no ...  real economy is 5l (38.4l : 769 x 100 =  ca 5l/100km)
You are getting good MPG as well  ;D If you don't need "to work hard" I can only say hell, way to go.

I know we can get good MPG on a shorter mileage but hard work is to obtain it the hole tank. At least was for me. My average speed was around 56 km/h. A little less than half in urban area and off a highway, others on a highway. Two person all the time, A/C on all the time. Sunny weather mostly. When I filled up gas I was ca 100 km away from home. MPG to home was 6,2 l/100km, average speed was 112 km.

My point is that I'm happy with my normal MPG in the future  8)

My only 'tricks' are to stay below 60mph, accelerate smmoooothly! change up early and think ahead to avoid using the brakes too much (every time you use the brakes you are in effect using petrol energy to heat up the brake discs).

same..

plus
stopping engine for longer waits (there are 100 sec red lights on my way )
accounting uphills and downhills then  speeding a bit
avoiding hard brakes
choosing  fast roads (even they are longer)
not using aircon for long periods
etc.

my average  speed is 44 km (26-28  mph I think)

Update on indicated 58mpg on my Jazz readout.

Trip readout was showing 255 miles (average weekly commuter mileage for me) and needle was exactly on half full when I topped up today with 20 litres of 'V' Power 97 RON. (58 mpg was result of half a tank of 95 and half tank of 97 octane, I am going to try what results I can get with more 97 octane in the mix)

Using 1 imperial Gallon = 4.54 litre, (1 US gallon is only 3.8 litres)
then 20 litres = 4.41 gallons,  divide 255 miles by 4.41 = 57.8 mpg.

That is amazing really because the mpg readout on the Jazz was absolutely spot on!!
I have noticed before that the more smoothly I drive the more closely the indicated and actual mpg readings match up.

Then I have to convert my trick computer metric to imperial :D :D because its always 0.3-0.5 l/100km wrong

My trip computer is inaccurate for 0.3 l/100 km, 3 imperial gallon I guess.
But it all depends from whether you fill up gas exactly to the same point as previously.

I'm in Annecy ATM (SE France) and managed to push my avg to 56.2 mpg with 180 miles done from this tankful!  ;D
That's the best I've ever seen from this Jazz or the last one! That does include a trip into the Alps though! ;)

OK guys and gals, I'm back home now after 2400+ roundtrip miles!
These are all actual figures calculated by the 'brim-the-tank' method and 95 octane 'cooking' petrol!

Best tankfulls were :
51.2 mpg on French Supermarket fuel
49.9 mpg on French Supermarket fuel
47.3 mpg on Sainsburys fuel

Worst tankfulls :
40.7 mpg on Tesco fuel
44.3 mpg on Tesco fuel
43.1 mpg on French Supermarket fuel

The biggest fill-up was only 30.57 litres with the low fuel warning light on!!!

Bit difficult to draw any firm conclusions apart from Tesco fuel is poor and JSS is a little better!
This is also the same for us in general!
