Fuel guage stuck?

Hi,
I have a 2005 1.2 dsi Jazz manual and I've just noticed the fuel guage has remained indicating full even after having done about 70 miles. This used to mean a broken connection at the tank guage, any ideas where to look and prod before I give in and take it to the garage?

I thought I had the same problem a while back, but after some more miles the guage started to go down.

Do another 50 miles or so and see what happens.

I'm sure it will start to go down.

You must be used to normal cars where the needle drops like a lead balloon.

Seriously though, there is a long pipe from the filler cap to the front mounted fuel tank on the Jazz (tank is under the front seats) and if you fill up completely this pipe has to empty before the tank level starts to drop, this can be quite a few miles.  I have on occasions driven very carefully to see how long I can keep the needle on 'full', and have been surprised at the result.

Another feature of the Jazz, although this is common to other cars is the fact that the first half of the tank seems to last a lot longer than the second half, but if you take the reserve fuel (I think about 7 litres on the Jazz after the light comes on) it is logical.

Hi again,
I've been driving this Jazz fo about 6 months (should have mentioned that sorry) to and fro to work mostly and I'm used to the normal speed that the needle drops after filling.................however I booked it in at the garage (still under warranty) and on the way home the needle started to drop!!!!!! bu~~er. My money is on dirty connections at the sender plug and socket, will let you know next week,

my fuel gauge indicator rises about 1cm above the max limit when topping up with fuel.does anyone have this problem?

Yes,mine's the same, as long as it works OK at the "empty"end I don't bother.Fuel guages are hit and miss at the "full"end anyway in my experince over a range of cars over the years.

i don't think mine is ok on the empty end either,unfortunately.when i'm out of fuel it still reads 1cm above the minimum mark.anyway i always top up when i have half sa tank

Is that when the low level light comes on or when the engine stops through lack of fuel.

once i was out of gas..the light was on and the fuel indicator was 1cm above the minimum line

as a tip to all: if you your engine will not start and the fuel indicator is close to minimum,don't try to start the engine anymore,until you fill up because if you do,and the fault is lack of petrol,you risk ruining the fuel pump(like i did,and i new one cost me 350 pounds) which is hot (especially during summer days).i think the fuel pump is maintained at an ok temperature by the fuel itself

  :-[after cancelling the garage and refilling and checking the amount of fuel taken as opposed to the indication on the guage I have to report I am a prat ::)nowt wrong with it, it just doesn't move for the first 60 miles and then it seems O.K.  soooooo apart from the windows steaming up, the steering being err. unusual and the fuel guage being strange it's fine, good job I like the car innit. I did think of using the socket on the back of the radio to plug in my i pod as it said somewhere there are only 3 bolts holding the radio in, be warned unless you have unusual hands or a highly trained mouse you need to remove large amounts of dash board to get at these bolts, I'll keep using the FM transmitter until I update the car,
