One Year Of Lockdown.
« on: March 22, 2021, 05:55:18 PM »
It's hard to believe, but as of tomorrow, it will be a year since the first lockdown.

It has been a year like no other and the world looks very different now.

and we have a least another year to go before any degree of normality is ours to enjoy again.
Hopefully we will be able to have some form of staycation this year, a visit to the pub is very appealing.

I very much doubt I will ever revisit a pub. I will never consider it a safe place to be. Or the cinema/theatre. Some places I have to go but those that I don't need to visit I will avoid.
And the idea of a foreign holiday is completely out of the box.

Me and the other half were talking about this the other day, and we feel the same. Although there are people who can't wait to get back to the boozer and cheap foreign holidays, a lot of attitudes have also changed. I have no problem avoiding busy, enclosed spaces I don't have to go, it should cut down on the colds too.

I used to think nothing of jumping on a bus then tube then popping down Oxford Street when I needed some things.

As mentioned, it'll be sometime before I go anywhere near a closed off tube carriage now. Especially when you hear about some that use masks as chin warmers and have no respect for others.
Let's be careful out there !

The government is trying to get us all to use public transport, but the pandemic has pretty well seen that off. If I cannot take my wife to her work for some reason, she doesn't go in. She won't use a bus or a taxi, and it is too far to walk. She is, at the moment, technically shielding, though that will change shortly.

I've just got back from my local B&Q. 5 minute walk.

When I crossed the road I had to wait for a bus to pass by. I couldn't understand how easy it was to spot at least half a dozen using their masks as chin warners. Not a care for the others.

Friend still uses the tube and he says similar. They go through the patrolled barriers wearing the mask then it gets pulled down exposing nose and mouth.
Let's be careful out there !

Anyone else remember when a staycation meant putting up a deck chair in your back garden?

Or is it? What do you think?

That was my summer holidays for my entire childhood, minus one year my Gran took us to Pittenweem (27 miles along the coast), and another time she took us to Butlins at Ayr.

it should cut down on the colds too.

Seen the below? Apparently the common cold could be our secret weapon against the SARSCOV2 virus.

TL:DR The common cold can 'boot out' the Covid19 virus. Sounds a bit like the conclusion of 'War of the Worlds' to me.

I probably will visit the pub but only a beer garden for now (weather permitting). I agree on holidays as well. In fact, for the first time in many years we have booked a self catering cottage in the Lakes for early September. Our favourite foreign destination is Madeira but I won't go until this disease is firmly back in its box so that might be never.

I'm holding on to Captain Sir Tom's words, "Tomorrow will be a better day". It has to be, doesn't it?

We booked our usual 2 weeks in Orkney 18 months ago, before it all kicked off.

Last summer was cancelled, obviously, and we carried the booking over to this year - and that's still up in the air.

Must admit have always wanted to go there.
