Disable simulated stepped transmission?

We know it's fake and a bit cringy :) and it might cost on efficiency?

Is it possible to turn the simulated stepped transmission off so the hybrid system instead just holds the optimal revs, like a regular eCVT?

There's the perception that drivers don't like continuously changing engine revs which aren't necessarily linked to changes in vehicle speed (a compalint against vehicles with CVT gearboxes) so Honda has programmed the system to make substantial changes in engine speed. I suspect that the impact on efficiency is minimal as any power surplus / shortfall at a specific engine speed will be accommodated by the battery.

I've no complaint about this aspect of my Crosstar. The only time I hear the engine is during heavy acceleration of climbing a steep hill and I know that the vehicle won't stay in the noisy mode for longer than it considers necessary.

How noisy is it when accelerating or going up hill? Does the hill have to be particularly steep or is it noisy even on gradual long inclines?

Noise is subjective - it's noticeable but not deafening and no worse (and probably better) than the previous Jazzes. I call it the noisy mode to differentiate it from the quiet mode when it's difficult to know whether or not the engine is running without looking at the gauges. The vehicle will cruise up motorway inclines at 60 mph without making a fuss but it will need the extra power to get up a 1 in 6 hill at 40 mph.

How would you compare noise with that of a conventional car (focus, golf etc) going up hill?
Also is the engine noise compounded by tyre and wind noise?

In earlier generation GK Jazz the simulated gears were for Europe, while e.g. Japan and Australia had pure CVT. I'm quite sure it's the same in GR Jazz. However it would require a serious hacker to remove the feature from European Jazz. Honda has not made hardly any features customizable.

Since there's no mechanical CVT, why would you want to do that anyway?
Just let the electronics do their thing at using the engine at its optimum, in a mostly quiet way.

CVT stands for continuously variable transmission, but Honda has given it a phoney "stepped approach" like a manual gearbox or a standard automatic.

The funny thing is that the Fit/Jazz e:HEV has a fixed gear ratio.

It’s all cosmetic in the Jazz anyway. I could take it or leave it. There’s no jerkiness like you get with actual DSG gear changes so that’s the important thing.

This is posted in the Mk4 section, but I thought the stepped CVT was only on the earlier marks?

As far as I can tell, it's not the cvt but the ice that generates the effect.  Under acceleration when the ice is generating power for the battery it's easy for the management system to 'over rev the ice then drop the revs back simulating a gear change.  I have never noticed it do more than once per acceleration. Maybe I don't accelerate hard enough !
